Foster School of Medicine (PLFSOM)* The Department of Medical Education at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso – Paul L.
Foster School of Medicine seeks a full-time pathologist to join our interdisciplinary team of medical educator faculty.
The successful candidate will dedicate approximately 20% time and effort to clinical practice (no nights, weekends, or calls required), with the balance of time devoted to teaching, student mentoring, service, and scholarship.
Although this position is specifically oriented to the pre-clerkship phase of the curriculum, our medical educators are generally involved in all aspects of the educational program.
The Department of Medical Education houses many state-of-the-art educational spaces, including a 5000-square-foot gross anatomy lab and a 2700-square-foot molecular and cell biology lab for teaching and faculty-mentored student research experiences.
Access to additional instrumentation and collaborative research expertise is granted through four centers of research emphasis (Cancer, Diabetes & Metabolism, Infectious Diseases, and Neuroscience) located in the adjacent Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine.

*Position Description:* This position contributes to the university's mission through teaching, scholarship, clinical service, and academically-related public service.
The successful candidate will: * Participate in the collaborative development and delivery of the pre-clerkship medical school curriculum (years 1-2), with an emphasis on curricular elements related to the teaching and assessment of clinical pathology, clinical reasoning, clinical skills, and professional development.
In addition, and more generally, the successful candidate will: * Participate in course administration and instruction for the pre-clerkship phase of the medical school curriculum * Develop and deliver an integrated curriculum, which blends basic science and clinical concepts, in collaboration with faculty members in other disciplines * Employ a variety of teaching methods including case-based instruction, large- and small-group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, and team-based learning * Provide formative and summative assessments of medical student performance * Provide individual support, feedback, and advice to medical students * Work closely with course and curriculum committees, fellow faculty, and key administrators to accomplish the educational program goals and objectives established by the School of Medicine * Engage in the advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship * Provide clinical service to the extent necessary to adequately support the teaching programs of the department * Contribute to the community through academically related public service complementary to the institutional mission * Serve the academic community through participation in institutional governance, such as committee work and other administrative duties * Ensure compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations Adhere to institutional policies and procedures * Demonstrate professionalism in accordance with the Paul L.
Foster School of Medicine Declaration of Faculty Professionalism Responsibility Depending on individual goals and interests, and as negotiated with the Chair of the Department of Medical Education, the successful candidate may also have the opportunity to: * Serve as a ‘college mentor’ by providing one-on-one support, feedback, and advising to medical students assigned to one of the school’s academic learning communities (‘colleges’) * Co-facilitate discussion-based sessions in the ‘College Colloquium,’ a course devoted to topics such as medical ethics, controversies in medicine, evidence-based medicine, critical thinking, safety and quality improvement, communication, humanism, empathy, wellness, life-long learning, bias, leadership, and professionalism *Minimum Qualifications:* * M.D. or D.O. degree, or equivalent * Successful completion of ACGME-accredited residency training in anatomic and/or clinical pathology * Board-certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic and/or clinical pathology * Licensure or eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Texas *Preferred Qualifications * * Training or experience in curriculum development, student mentoring, medical skills instruction, and performance evaluation of medical students * Experience with innovative teaching methods, such as interactive large- and small-group formats, team-based learning, case-based learning, and problem-based learning * Interest in medical education scholarship * Participation in national organizations or committees devoted to medical education * Emerging or established regional or national reputation for the rank of associate professor or higher This position is salaried and fully funded.
