Position Summary The School of Rehabilitation Sciences seeks students who are transitioning into their second year and who are enrolled within one of the following programs: Doctor of Occupational Therapy, Doctor of Physical Therapy, or Master of Science in Athletic Training Students hired for this position will tutor fellow students and assist with their academic success.
The Peer Tutor reports to the Director of Academic Success Essential Functions This is a student position open to current UIW SRS students.
Meet with the instructor of record for a particular course each week for guidelines about content to be mastered by students and teaching strategy suggestions.Work with students one-on-one or in a group setting to improve understanding of course content.Give suggestions for study skills/strategies for subject.May be asked to plan and/or assist with review sessions prior to exam periods or as assigned.Check peer tutor email regularly and respond to appointment requests promptly.Submit any required documents and reports in a timely manner.
This may include reports of attendance, participation and subject matter related to students mandated for peer tutoring.Assist with special projects and other duties as needed.Meet regularly with the Director of Academic Success to discuss strategies for tutoring, educational or interpersonal concerns or challenges, and achievements to be recognized.Perform other duties as assigned. Competent and able to tutor in all areas of your designated academic program.Good interpersonal skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality.Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.Ability to manage personal, academic, and tutoring commitments.Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA. Completed first year of Doctor of Occupational Therapy program, Doctor of Physical Therapy program or Master of Science in Athletic Training program by the date of hire.
Must be currently enrolled full-time at UIW during employment periods, including summer semesters.Must have completed the courses to be tutored with a grade ≥ “B+”. Required Work Experience None Specified.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of tutoring techniques and strategies and/or previous teaching or tutoring experience.
