Job description

An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is open in the laboratory of Dr. Roger Bannister at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

The successful candidate will drive one of two major projects in the laboratory: 1) understanding how altered plasma membrane excitability contributes to muscle atrophy and the loss of motor units in aging and neuromuscular disease (e.g., amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; ALS), and 2) using heterologous systems and zebrafish models tostudy/CACNA1A/mutations that result in molecular, synaptic and behavioral defects and to screen for effective drug therapies to combat these and other CaV2.1 channelopathies.

In addition, the successful candidate will be given opportunity to develop an independent research program.

This position is projected to begin in March 2020 or shortly thereafter.

*Qualifications* Applicants should possess a Ph.D. with less than five years of postdoctoral experience.

The ideal candidate should have relevant technical expertise and strong communication and writing skills, as well as relevant technical expertise (e.g., expertise with patch-clamp recording and/or Ca2imaging techniques, experience with zebrafish models, knowledge of ion channel biophysics and/or muscle physiology, etc.).
