What You Will DoThe Pulsed Field Facility of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher to explore frustrated magnetism and magnetoelectric coupling at the world's premier high magnetic field research facility using a diverse set of experimental techniques.
Successful candidates for this position will employ and develop measurements including magnetization, electrical properties, magnetostriction and/or heat capacity in DC and pulsed magnetic fields to understand new quantum magnetic phases of matter.
The position also provides opportunities for industrious candidates to pursue new collaborations, develop complementary techniques, and perform independent research within related topics at LANL, a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in both fundamental and strategic science on behalf of national security.
The candidate will have the opportunity to work as part of one large-scale multi-institutional quantum research centers with collaborators within and outside the US.
What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:Education/Experience: A Ph.D in experimental condensed-matter physics, materials science, or a related discipline completed within the past 5 years.Experience in one or more of the following areas is required:
Strong background in condensed-matter physics or physical chemistry of magnetic materialsExperience designing and realizing custom instrumentationMagnetoelectric or multiferroic materialsFrustrated magnetsMolecular magnetismMagnetic, electrical and thermodynamic measurements in low or high magnetic fields Data analysis and interpretationPaper writing and verbal presentationsDesired Qualifications:Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team.
Familiarity with using Matlab, Mathematica, Labview, Python, etc.
for data analysis, instrumentation, and calculations/modeling is desired.Work Location:The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded.
Starting salary for a new graduate is currently $97,000.
