Job description

Summary About the Position: Serves as a Crew Supervisor directing and working with a crew performing mechanical maintenance and machine shop work at a major multiple purpose hydroelectric project.

Responsible for exercising control over the work operations of subordinate crew members involved in the major and minor maintenance and repair to power generating equipment, machinery for spillway dams, and fishway facilities, and other preventive maintenance activities.

Responsibilities Supervise the work of a crew performing routine mechanical maintenance and overhauls on equipment and other apparatus and auxiliaries for a multi-purpose project.

Equipment includes generators, transformers, turbines, motors, pumps, hydraulic gates, diesel engines, mobile cranes, bridge cranes, heating and ventilating equipment, air compressors, governors, hydraulic systems, and hoists.

Establish periodic maintenance and inspection schedules based on maintenance orders assigned.

Assign work, and adjusts assignments according to workload, changing deadlines, and priorities.

Executes supervisory duties required to follow and complete predetermined plans, in terms of personnel and material requirements.

Explain work requirements, methods, techniques and procedures as needed; defines the standards of quality and quantity to be met, provides additional instruction on difficult work operations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Power Plant Mechanic Crew Supervisor without more than normal supervision.

I have the ability to lead or supervise common tasks as a journeyman level power plant mechanic.

I can transmit instructions into working assignments or tasks for a mechanical crew; set the pace for work accomplishments; explain and instruct others of the same or lower grades; inspect, accept or reject work of others; and assure compliance to safety regulations and practices by crew members.

I work under normal supervision of a work leader who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc.

(Includes Blueprint Reading) Ability to Lead or Supervise Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.

Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Troubleshooting PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort requires climbing stairs and ladders; prolonged standing and walking; and incumbent may occasionally assist trades and crafts workers by lifting, carrying, pushing pulling, and twisting objects weighing up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds.

There is danger of cuts, bruises, and burns from equipment and possible irritation or injury to eyes and skin from acids and solvents.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and outside the powerhouse.

When working outside, is exposed to the usual climate extremes.

Exposed to high noise levels when working in the powerhouse and shops and conditions of low visibility due to wearing protective devices and available light in some locations.

Must endure the discomfort of protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses and goggles, face masks, shields, helmets, respirators and gloves depending on work supervised and safety requirements which must be met.

At projects where repairs to sewage treatment plants are performed there is the additional danger of exposure to raw sewage.

Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.

Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.

One year trial/probationary period may be required.

One year supervisory probationary period may be required.

Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.

Direct deposit of pay is required.

This is a(n) Logistics Career Field position.

Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.

Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.

Eligible for situational telework only, including emergency and OPM prescribed unscheduled telework.

Position may be filled as a Temporary Appointment NTE 1 year.

Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three (3) years.

May require working outside in all kinds of weather.
