Prevention Manager (Community Program Manager) Job Opening In Baltimore – Now Hiring University of Maryland, Baltimore


Job description

*The University of Maryland Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a Prevention Manager (Community Program Manager) to support the Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling.*The Prevention Manager is responsible for assessing, designing, coordinating and implementing problem gambling prevention programs statewide in Maryland.

The Prevention Manager will have familiarity with grant management, providing training, public speaking, strong writing skills, and knowledge of working with community leaders.

The Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling (the Center), is a program of the University of Maryland School of Medicine and funded by the Maryland Department of Health Behavioral Health Administration.

The Center promotes healthy and informed choices regarding gambling and problem gambling.

All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.* *_Primary Duties_* * Manages the Gambling Prevention Grant Program and strategizes to address gambling-related public health issues.

Plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the program.

* Coordinates the daily activities and functions of the Prevention Community Program Coordinator to ensure the highest quality programming.

Provides solutions to issues and judgment outside of pre-established guidelines or processes.

* Sets goals and creates tactics to achieve program objectives.

Hires and trains staff as needed.

* Oversees record keeping, data collection, management and analysis.

Prepares and presents program reports.

* Supports local programs in developing targeted school- and community-based, intervention strategies and engagement activities.

* Acts as a gambling prevention education resource for specialized state and local public health programs and offers support to local health departments, state agencies, community-based organizations and providers.

* Coordinates and assists in training programs for professionals, colleges and universities, and community organizations.

* Fosters and maintains a cooperative working relationship among a wide variety of school, community, and professional representatives, and ensures regular contact with those entities.

* Conducts presentations, training, webinars, and gambling prevention community exhibits.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

*Education:*Bachelor’s degree.

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in public health, sociology, psychology, or similar human service field preferred.

*Experience:*Four (4) years of experience involving program planning and coordination experience, preferably in community or university setting.

*Supervisory Experience:*Two (2) years of work coordination, training, or supervision.

*Other:*Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience.

In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

* Strong communication skills to interact with college contacts and other community member organizations.

* Knowledge of data collection and analysis.

* Ability to write reports and summarize findings.

* Ability to work in the community to address and support a public health problem.

* Ability to follow health policy and provide input on applicable law changes.

*Hiring Range:*$79,000 - $87,000, commensurate with education and experience.
