Te Aka Whai Ora is the primary source of strategy and policy for Hauora Māori, leading the identification and monitoring of equitable health outcomes, development of the Māori health workforce, and the direct commissioning of kaupapa Māori services.

Our whāinga is to achieve greater Māori participation in the design and delivery of health services for the betterment of all.

We play a critical role in enhancing Māori rangatiratanga, ensuring equitable access to healthcare and supporting whānau to take control of their own health and wellbeing.

To do this we work in close partnership with the Manatū Hauora - Ministry of Health and Te Whatu Ora - Health NZ and enable Iwi Māori Partnerships Boards (IMPBs), Māori health providers, iwi, hapū and Māori communities to achieve Māori health aspirations.

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity 

This role sits within the Te Aka Aroturuki | Monitoring Directorate which has an obligation and responsibility to monitor the delivery of hauora Māori services and the direction of travel towards (or away) from Pae Ora outcomes​.

Reporting to the General Manager System and Te Whatu Ora Monitoring you will:

  • Execute the effective planning and delivery of Te Aka Whai Ora's Te Whatu Ora monitoring activity in conjunction with the Systems Monitoring team and other relevant parts of Te Aka Whai Ora.
  • Support the achievement of the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022, Pae Tata and Pae Tawhiti by enabling Te Aka Whai Ora's monitoring systems.
  • Enable the provision of expert monitoring services and advice.

    To be successful you will need:

  • A background in working in technical big data environments or quantitatively led monitoring functions.

    You will understand qualitative monitoring or audit methodologies gained from a thought leadership position in a complex regulatory, independent review or audit environment.
  • Experience of leading change by influence and supporting senior leaders to deliver to an agreed work program.
  • Strong remediation skills- experience investigating and contributing to the remediation of system or entity level weaknesses to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Experience in contributing to transformational systems change with respect to implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

  • Expertise in engaging with iwi Māori and community organisations.
