What You’ve Accomplished


+ Completion of a BS in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline

+ At least 7 years of directly related experience

+ An advanced degree may substitute for related experience



+ Advanced knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques and criteria

+ Above average communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data (meetings, email, presentations, customer deliverables, etc.)

+ Ability to Grows Developed networks and maintains good interpersonal relationships.



+ Works collaboratively within a team environment.



+ Strong Advanced problem identification and problem resolution skills.



+ Displaying leadership characteristics.



+ Questioning attitude and practices self-checking.



+ Advanced level of Microsoft Office and business unit specific software tools (ex.

CAD, FEA, CFD, etc.) and computer programming skills.

+ Experience planning and executing large scale component design, fabrication and installation projects in construction environments.

(walkdowns, laydown planning, ALARA)

+ Component / Tooling Design Experience

+ Procurement / Vendor Oversight / Fabrication follow

+ Project Schedule Development

+ Personnel Development / Mentoring

+ Experience with ASME Code (Section III, XI, VIII) is highly desired, with application of Codes and Standards being routine with this position

+ MUST be able to obtain unescorted access to a Commercial Nuclear facility

As a Principal Component Engineer in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Component Repair & Replacement Business Line in the Installed Base Business Unit.

The Component Engineer role is the key interface between the customer, our analysis team, fabricators, and our field installation craft.

In this role an attention to detail and ability to balance competing requirements are keys for success.

As a Principal Engineer you will leverage your knowledge and experience to provide guidance to new engineers through pre-job briefs, document reviews, and mentoring.

While the majority of our work is in support of the existing operating fleet, the group is also actively involved supporting multiple new reactor concepts.

Our current work scopes include detailed design of reactor internals, rigging and transport planning, and interference studies.

Multiple people in the group have received patents based on project deliverables.

Your work will include:


+ Development of product specifications

+ Preparation of component design drawings

+ Issuing procurement documents

+ Oversight of component fabrication including interface with inspection teams

+ Preparation of field installation procedures

+ Support of field implementation activities.




This position requires occasional domestic travel to attend customer meetings, perform plant walkdowns, and to support installation activities.

Infrequent international travel is possible.

Your Total Rewards Package

The range of base salary for the position is between $112,000 - $152,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits.

Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
