Principal DevSecOps Engineer

Briefly Describe the Work:

GITI is looking for a DevSecOps Engineer with Kessel Run Software Factory experience and backend development skills to support the research, development, installation, deployment, operation, maintenance, and continued capability evolution of cyber capabilities.

A successful candidate will have a strong foundation in virtual technologies, networking, and databases, and have a strong desire to learn, grow, and solve problems.

Successful candidates for this role will have experience building products and services that improve software developer feedback loops, time to-production, rollback strategies, CI/CD automation at an Individual Contributor level.

The engineer should also possess effective communication skills to interact with various stakeholders internal and external to the organization.

Candidates must have critical thinking skills, be creative, curious, resourceful, and have a passion for conveying a wide range of information through research leading to deeper insights.

The candidate may work independently but participate in project-wide reviews of requirements, system architecture, and detailed design documents.

A Cloud Engineer must be able to collaborate well with a strong lean-forward attitude to shift knowledge left, deliver well, and produce quality results.


+ Cloud Engineers research, design, and develop cloud-based infrastructure, applications, and services that meet requirements, (e.g., selecting the appropriate cloud platform, creating architecture diagrams, and developing automation scripts).

+ Responsible for engineering and integration of new/upgraded mission-essential applications into various platforms to include cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.

Monitor the performance of cloud-based systems and optimize resources to ensure cost-effectiveness and high availability.

+ Possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to resolve any issues that may arise.

+ Implement security measures like encryption and access controls and regularly audit the cloud environment to ensure compliance.

+ Knowledge of networking concepts, (e.g., IP addressing, DNS, load balancing, etc.).

+ Optimize new or existing applications and data processing pipelines to support efficient use of computing and data storage resources.

+ Support the evolution of DevSecOps processes and tools to ensure continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) processes are in place and utilized for new or upgraded applications.

+ Communicate system-related issues to technical leads proactively and effectively.

+ Stay updated on the latest advancements in cloud computing technologies and conduct research to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.

+ Demonstrate ability to research and apply new tools, techniques, and solution approaches.

Continually learn and improve your skills through sharing with others and taking advantage of available training sources.

+ Considered an emerging authority, who applies extensive technical expertise.

Develops technical solutions to complex problems.

Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignment.

Bachelor's (or equivalent) with 8 - 10 years of experience, or a Master's with 6 - 8 years of experience.
Required Skills:


+ Experience working as a Cloud Engineer, Computer Scientist, Software Developer, or in related fields.

+ Working knowledge with cloud computing platforms, (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, etc.).

+ Experience in designing, developing, and managing cloud-based infrastructure and applications.

+ Experience with containerizations (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, Swarm etc).

+ Familiarity with programming languages, (e.g., Python, Java, Go, NodeJS, etc.).

+ Experience working with relational and/or non-relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch etc.).

+ Experience with modern version control systems (Git, Subversion, Mercurial, etc.).

+ Demonstrated expertise leveraging Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment technologies (Gitlab (and Gitlab Runners), Jenkins, Concourse, CircleCI, etc.).

+ Ability to work effectively with a teleworking team, with virtual access to dev/test/stable environments.

+ Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.

+ Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to independently or to work effectively in a team environment; the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities/requirements.

+ Knowledge of cloud security best practices and compliance requirements.

+ CompTIA Security+ CE or other DoD 8570 IAT II certification, within 90 days
Desired Skills:


+ Working knowledge of cyber operations, cyber defense strategies and tools, and malware

+ Working knowledge of networks, network traffic data, and virtual environments.

+ Experience with network traffic inspection tools (e.g., Suricata, Arkime, Zeek, etc.).

+ Knowledge of big data technologies, (e.g., Elastic Search, Apache Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.).
Relevant Certifications:


+ Certifications in Cloud Engineering, (e.g., Amazon Web Services (AWS) Solutions Architect – Associate; Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals; Google Associate Cloud Engineer; IBM Certified Technical Advocate - Cloud; Cloud Security Alliance: Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK); Professional Cloud Architect (PCA); Professional Cloud Developer (PCD); Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer (PCDOE); Professional Cloud Security Engineer (PCSE); CompTIA Cloud+).
