Job description


Remote Sensing (RS) Principal Geospatial Scientist



Seeking a Geospatial leader and technical expert with proven experience in strategic planning, roadmap development, and stakeholder consultation.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in diverse remote sensing data (satellite, LiDAR, drone), data quality standards, and to identify and leverage data science tools to communicate insights.

Leadership experience with mentoring team members is required.

The role demands strong technical skills within an Esri Enterprise GIS environment, and experience with Agile methodologies (e.g., Jira).





Requirements:

Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of specialized experience or Master's degree plus 4 years of specialized experience or High School diploma plus 10 years of specialized experience




  • Specialized experience as defined for this project includes the ability to Provide systems engineering and administration support to the Client Geospatial Management Office.

Strategy & Leadership


  • Proven ability to effectively consult with stakeholders to capture and refine requirements, translating those needs into defined, actionable technical roadmaps and project plans.

  • Proven experience delivering written strategies, white papers, cataloging, technical reports, and detailed plans with phased approaches.

  • Ability to lead and mentor junior geospatial analysts and developers, providing technical guidance, and promoting best practices across the team.

  • Experience in evaluating, testing, and recommending new geospatial technologies, software, and sensors to continuously improve the team's capabilities and output.




Remote Sensing & Data Science


  • Deep knowledge of diverse remote sensing data formats and sources, including satellite imagery (e.g., Landsat, Sentinel, high-resolution commercial data), LiDAR, and drone-captured photogrammetry.

  • A strong understanding of geospatial data quality, metadata standards, and coordinate reference systems, ensuring the integrity and usability of derived products.

  • Proficiency in identifying and leveraging Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and data metrics, with demonstrated experience using business intelligence tools to visualize and communicate analytical insights.

  • Proven ability to work with raw data, draw meaningful insights, and clearly communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.




Technical & Workflow


  • Hands-on experience with Agile methodologies and task management tools (e.g., Jira), including the discipline to accurately document work progress and support sprint cycles.

  • Strong proficiency in coding languages, particularly Python, for development, automation, and analysis within an Esri Enterprise and Desktop GIS environment is highly desirable.
