Urgent! Principal Product Designer - Experiences Job Opening In New York – Now Hiring Mediabistro

Principal Product Designer Experiences

Job description

Overview

San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, or Remote within Canada or United States
Mercury is a financial technology company that helps startups spend less time banking and more time building.

We believe the key to our success is thoughtful, scalable, and beautifully crafted design.

We’re hiring a principal product designer for the Experiences group to define and design best-in-class interactions, patterns, and product experiences across Mercury’s core product experience — the app, dashboard, navigation, notifications, design system, and more.
As our principal designer, you’ll sit across the entire Experiences org and tackle projects that extend across the whole product and company, shaping global patterns and the visual language of our design system.
What we’re looking for

The candidate is a visionary craftsperson and a systems architect who can set the standard for exceptional craft while ensuring beauty and elegance are scalable.

They should be viewed as the company’s highest-craft designer, inspiring others with taste and guidance.
Responsibilities include re-thinking the overall product navigation, defining global patterns (e.g., search and chat), and refreshing Mercury’s design system visuals.
Our design team consists of 40+ people who solve complex problems and also cultivate, guide, and inspire one another.
Note: Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank.

Banking services are provided through Choice Financial Group, Column N.A; and Evolve Bank & Trust; Members FDIC.
What you will do at Mercury

Take ownership of larger, horizontal opportunities that shape the core of Mercury’s product.

Drive exceptional quality and craft, set the bar for the design team, and inspire better work across the discipline.
Partner with other designers on high-priority and complex projects to help deliver outcomes while upleveling the work.
Key Responsibilities

Drive design excellence and craft across Mercury, including visual design, interaction design / prototyping, and systems design.
Collaborate with product teams and executive leadership to build things in a systematic, high-quality manner.
Operate across the full design stack: project specs, workflows, detailed interactions & prototypes, high-fidelity visuals, and ensuring quality implementation.
Contribute to Mercury’s Design System, ensuring it is both beautiful and practical.
Function as a design architect — structure navigation, information architecture, and how all Mercury products fit together cohesively.
Translate high-craft design into scalable systems and patterns that integrate with product work.
Mentor other designers, leading by example to elevate the team’s skills.
Qualities we value

10+ years of experience in the design industry
Experience leading high-complexity projects with multiple stakeholders
Ability to use the right artifacts (presentations, prototypes, etc.) and communicate to influence company strategy
Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners to define product strategy
Ability to design whole systems, not just interface elements
Ability to rapidly prototype large-scale concepts and thoughtful interactions
Experience across the design stack, including UI/UX, visual design, and interaction design
Kindness and humility in everyday interactions
Enjoy mentoring fellow designers of all levels
Compensation & Benefits

The total rewards package includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.

Salary ranges are competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and updated regularly based on reliable compensation data.

New hire offers are based on experience, location, and internal pay equity.
Target base salary ranges for this role are:
US employees (any location): $269,700–$337,100 USD
