Principal Systems EngineerLocation: Remote Employees: <1,000| Team Size: 4Industry: Financial TechnologyWe are seeking an experienced Principal Systems Engineer/Architect with a strong background in enterprise infrastructure and hybrid environments.
This individual will take ownership of architecture, design, administration, and optimization of critical systems, while driving technical standards and ensuring service availability.
Most Important Responsibilities:
Provide senior leadership on systems design, standards, and implementation, including mentoring peers and sharing best practices.
Evaluate, test, and implement technical solutions to complex infrastructure challenges, ensuring alignment with business outcomes and value creation.Recommend and implement new approaches, tools, and technologies to increase system efficiency, reduce cost, and strengthen security posture.Establish and maintain operational standards, policies, and documentation for infrastructure management.
Lead disaster recovery planning, testing, and ongoing resilience efforts.Direct vendor engagement for hardware and software upgrades, contract renewals, and enterprise integration projects.Ensure compliance with security frameworks through regular assessments, audits, and proactive remediation.What you can bring to the table to impact this role, team, and organization:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.10+ years of expertise across Windows, Linux, and hybrid cloud ecosystems.Proven background in enterprise architecture, technical leadership, and complex infrastructure delivery.Hands-on mastery of Windows Server (IIS, DHCP, DNS, clustering) and Linux administration (preferably Ubuntu), including technical leadership, and complex infrastructure delivery.Hands-on mastery of Windows Server (IIS, DHCP, DNS, clustering) and Linux administration (preferably Ubuntu), including hardening and performance optimization.Deep experience with enterprise identity solutions such as Active Directory and Entra ID.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 platforms (Exchange, Intune, Office applications).Demonstrated skill with automation and Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform, Bash, Python) for scalable provisioning and configuration.Strong background in VMware vSphere/ESXi design and management, with integration into enterprise storage and networking.Experience with SAN/NAS/Object storage solutions and multi-protocol support (iSCSI, NFS, SMB, FC, NVMe-oF).Thorough understanding of networking concepts (OSI stack layers, DNS, DHCP, routing, load balancing).Expertise in backup/recovery platforms (Veeam, Rubrik) and enterprise disaster recovery strategies.Solid grasp of security practices, certificate management, and path lifecycle management.
Proficiency with monitoring and observability solutions to ensure proactive system health.Experience managing mission-critical data center operations.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both executives and technical teams.Demonstrated record of delivering complex projects within tight deadlines.Bonus Experience/Skills:Experience building and managing hybrid cloud integrations with providers such as AWS and Azure.Advanced certifications (VMware, Microsoft, or equivalent) highly valued.Familiarity with modern orchestration and automation platforms beyond core IaC.Compensation: $170K + bonus
