Overview

Private Music Lesson Adjunct - Orchestral Strings.

Olympic College’s Music program offers private individual instruction in a variety of instruments as well as for vocal.

The Music program provides space for individualized instruction, as well as for students to practice and perform.

Adjunct faculty are employed in brass, wind/reed, guitar, bass, strings, piano, and voice.

Instruction may be delivered through Canvas, Zoom, Skype, and other online resources in addition to face-to-face instruction.

Candidates should be comfortable using these or related technology.


Base pay

Salary: $5,000 - $6,000 per 5-credit course.

Department: Social Sciences & Humanities.

Reports to: Dean of SSH.

This is a part-time Private Music adjunct faculty position, teaching primarily private lessons on violin, viola, cello, or bass.

Placement on the faculty salary schedule is commensurate with educational background and experience.


Responsibilities

  • Teach evening, distance, and in-person classes on the Bremerton and other campuses when requested.
  • Provide quality teaching, including related preparation, grading, and record keeping.
  • Provide class syllabi/guidelines to students enrolled in classes by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested.
  • Identify individual learning needs of students and adjust learning environments and activities to meet those needs.
  • Punctually communicate with students, faculty, staff and administrators.
  • Hold regularly scheduled private lessons for the schedule span of time enrolled (1/2 credit = 1/2 hr/week; 1 credit = 1 hr/week).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
  • Deliver instructional course content with enthusiasm and use a variety of instruction methods to ensure student success.
  • Demonstrate commitment to teaching students with diverse backgrounds and veterans; apply culturally responsive teaching pedagogies.
  • Foster a climate of multi-cultural understanding and appreciation; contribute to Olympic College’s mission and learning-centered climate.
  • Incorporate accessibility and accommodations into course materials and classroom activities.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and orally; collaborate with faculty, staff, and students as part of an educational team.
  • Incorporate technology in the delivery of course content and services, including the College-approved learning management system.
  • Uphold Olympic College values and ethics to maintain a positive climate.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; experience in teaching or mentoring music students, specifically in the area of instruction.
  • Desired Qualifications: Master’s degree in area of instruction; two years of teaching experience of private lessons at the audit level; ability to play and teach in both classical and jazz styles on upright bass; ability to teach technique on violin, viola, and/or cello.

  • Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position.

    Only candidates authorized to work in the United States will be considered.
  • Faculty must submit official, unopened transcripts within 30 days of employment.
  • This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis with salary commensurate to background and experience.

    Evening/weekend classes, campus and off-site travel may be required.

    Adjuncts are open continuously and reviewed quarterly; applying does not guarantee a position.

    Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits on initial hire and must work 50 percent of a full-time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible.
  • Benefits may include: Deferred Compensation, retirement plans, sick leave, space-available tuition waiver, EAP, on-site childcare (space available), among others.
