Overview:A new advanced manufacturing facility is seeking a
Process Engineer to support the design, development, and optimization of powder metallurgy operations.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the startup of a greenfield site and to work across a wide range of chemical, mechanical, and thermal processes, including electrowinning, strip casting, powder production, pressing & sintering, machining, and assembly.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in metal powder processing and quality control, along with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional specialists to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production.
Key Responsibilities:- Serve as a member of the Production Engineering team, working closely with upstream and downstream process groups to meet customer requirements.
- Partner with procurement, vendors, maintenance, operators, and other stakeholders on equipment specification, design reviews, and commissioning.
- Contribute to EHS risk assessments, HAZOP studies, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Plan and support process development for hydrogen decrepitation (HD) furnaces, jet milling, dry grinding, and powder blending.
- Collaborate with the NPI team to scale new processes from development to production.
- Provide technical training and day-to-day support to operators and technicians.
- Translate customer requirements into process control plans and quality standards.
- Monitor key operating parameters to achieve consistent yield, product quality, and safe operations.
- Oversee the application of quality control procedures and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Diagnose and resolve process and equipment issues related to powder production, working with QA, production, and customer service teams when needed.
- Document technical findings, support intellectual property development, and assist with patent filings.
- Perform additional engineering duties as assigned.
Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy/Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
- 3–5 years of industrial experience in metal powder processing and associated equipment.
- Strong understanding of powder metallurgy fundamentals, including particle size distribution, flowability, agglomeration, and quality control practices.
- Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and data-driven process improvement.
- Experience with structured problem-solving methods such as FMEA, 8D, A3, or Root Cause Analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (required for on-site operations).
Preferred Experience & Skills:- 5+ years of experience in powder production and processing.
- In-depth knowledge of hydrogen furnace operation and metal powder pulverization.
- Practical understanding of process safety related to powder handling.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
- Ability to influence teams across all levels of the organization.
- Familiarity with process programming and control systems, including P&ID, PLCs, CFD, MATLAB, Python, Minitab, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks.
