Prod Support Mongo Principal Engineer (P5)
Locations: Iselin, NJ/Charlotte, NC/Chandler, AZ
In this role, you
• Manage and maintain MongoDB clusters, including replica sets and sharded environments.
• Design and implement high-availability and disaster recovery solutions using MongoDB replication, backup strategies, and cloud-native tools.
• Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning.
• Analyze slow queries and implement indexing strategies to improve application performance.
• Automate database maintenance tasks using JavaScript, Shell scripting, and tools like Ansible or Terraform.
• Develop and maintain scripts for provisioning, monitoring, and alerting.
• Ensure database security, compliance, and audit readiness (SOX, PCI, HIPAA).
• Implement role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, and auditing features.
• Collaborate with application development, infrastructure, and security teams to support business initiatives.
• Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for database-related incidents and implement long-term solutions.
• Manage backup and recovery strategies using MongoDB Ops Manager, cloud-native backups, or enterprise tools.
• Monitor database health using tools like MongoDB Atlas, Prometheus, Grafana, or custom dashboards.
• Maintain detailed documentation for database configurations, procedures, and recovery plans.
Required Qualifications:
• 7+ years of MongoDB Database Administration experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military service, or education.
• Expertise in MongoDB architecture, replication, sharding, and performance tuning.
• Strong proficiency in MongoDB query language, aggregation framework, and indexing strategies.
• Experience with Linux/Unix environments and Shell scripting.
• Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Jenkins.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and storage integration.
• Experience with monitoring tools: MongoDB Atlas, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
• Proven leadership in incident management and change control processes.
