Here, you will make an impact by:
Be part of a team to design and commercialize hardgoods products and systems for the Reusable and Powered Air Purifying Respirators Design concepts of mechanical components meeting product performance, reliability and robustness requirements, manufacturing processes and safety guidelines of personal protective equipmentDesign mechanical components applying knowledge of materials and manufacturing to administrate how a part should be made, such as CNC machining, injection molding, overmolding, thermal forming, die cutting, etcMaintain products for continuous improvement which might include altering parts or materialsPerform robustness analysis of prototype designs and incorporate results to develop the final product and manufacturing processInitiate and maintain bills of materials and release mechanical drawings to support prototype and pilot buildsPerform mechanical verification tests per specifications and write test reportsDevelop product build documentation to support manufacturing, engineering and product transition from prototype to scale-up productionAnalyze production level products to improve manufacturability and/or functionDevelop a global network across R&D, regulatory, supply chain, marketing and application engineering teamsYour Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field of Engineering (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institutionAdditional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Three or more years of experience in Mechanical Engineering or Product designDesign respiratory electro-mechanical components using the latest CAD tools, Creo, NX, AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similarApply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to engineering challengesUse computer simulation tools to test and optimize designsKnow the material properties and design guidelines of various mechanical componentsFollow Design for Manufacturability and Assembly principlesUnderstand and protect intellectual propertyTroubleshoot complex electro-mechanical hardgoods systemsResolve problems with urgencyCollaborate across the company’s global teamsCommunicate and present conceptual ideas effectivelyWork location:
·Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
Travel: May include up to 15% domestic/international
