Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION The Tulane University School of Architecture and Built Environment (TuSABE) is seeking qualified candidates within the discipline of Architecture to fill multiple positions for Professor of Practice in Architecture.

All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply.

Our growing Architecture program seeks candidates whose expertise is integrated into a coherent and compelling design pedagogy, with strong qualifications and enthusiasm for teaching core design studios and core courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate excellence in creative practice-driven research and teaching architectural design studios in one or more of the following areas: Computational Design, Media, and Representation Energy Modeling, Circularity, and Decarbonization Materials, Methods, Fabrication, and Construction Building Tectonics and Structural Design Successful candidates will support our educational mission and teach design studios, lectures, and seminar courses related to their area of expertise.

Faculty at TuSABE offer coursework across the Architecture programs (B.Arch, BSA, M.Arch and M.S.ARC) with the opportunity to collaborate with other programs within the School.

Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The expected starting date of the position is July 1, 2026.

ABOUT THE TULANE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT AND TULANE UNIVERSITY The Tulane University School of Architecture and Built Environment provides global leadership through excellence in design, research, and practice in the built environment.

The School includes undergraduate and graduate Architecture programs and several other allied programs and degree paths.

Faculty members teach coursework and collaborate as appropriate to their expertise across the School’s programs including Architecture (B.Arch, BSA, M.Arch and M.S.ARC), Landscape Architecture and Engineering (MLA-MS RCSE), Real Estate Development (BSRE, MSRED), Historic Preservation (MSHP), Design (BADes), Sustainable Urbanism (BS SURB), Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (Undergraduate Minor), and Climate Change: Science and Practice (Undergraduate Minor).

Other schools, programs, and centers at the University provide ample opportunities for interdisciplinary research and collaboration.

The School is recognized for robust initiatives in community-engaged design (The Albert and Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design), design-build (URBANbuild), interdisciplinary research studios, and research initiatives supported by the Center on Climate Change and Urbanism.

Over the past five years, the School has experienced significant growth across all its programs, and in spring 2025, the School returned to its newly renovated home, Richardson Memorial Hall, complete with new studios, fabrication shops, classrooms, exhibition space, and offices.

QUALIFICATIONS Successful candidates must have a terminal degree in architecture (Master of Architecture) or an equivalent graduate professional degree, doctorate, or a Ph.D. in architecture or related fields.

Professional licensure in the United States (or an international equivalent) is desirable.

Candidates should exhibit proficiency in their area of expertise and demonstrate a record of distinguished design practice and innovative curriculum development.

Professors of Practice at Tulane School of Architecture and Built Environment are expected to teach; work with faculty colleagues, the dean, and other departments at Tulane to develop curriculum; and engage in service through a range of academic committees.

Candidates for Professor of Practice positions are expected to pursue a clear agenda of practice-based research and creative production.

Candidates for this position should be ready to teach undergraduate and graduate-level design studios (particularly within the core curriculum) and coursework within their area of expertise.

Professor of Practice positions typically begin with three-year appointments and may be renewed for longer terms following appropriate review.

Note: TuSABE is also currently searching for candidates for Assistant/Associate Professor in Architecture (Tenure Track / Tenured) positions.
