Job Description
The Program Coordinator II will oversee a team of Extension Agents delivering public health education, research-based interventions, and community wellness programming across six counties in Metro Houston.
This role is central to PVAMU’s Cooperative Extension Program and supports the mission of improving quality of life in communities through outreach education in health, nutrition, and overall wellness.
As part of the Journey to Eminence Strategic Plan: Goal #4, which aims for PVAMU to reach R1 research status, the Program Coordinator II will design and administer surveys, analyze data, and assist Program Leadership and faculty in preparing journal articles and conference presentations.
These scholarly activities will directly support and elevate the research mission of the university, ensuring that public health interventions are not only impactful at the community level but also advance the institution's academic reputation and research portfolio.
This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities:
Program Management & Coordination
Lead daily operations and strategic planning for assigned program areas within the Wellness in Houston program.
Supervise Extension Agents and support staff, ensuring alignment with PVAMU’s goals and Cooperative Extension standards.
Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to implement evidence-based health interventions and research protocols.
Evaluation & Reporting
Conduct program evaluations using tools such as pre/post surveys, retrospective assessments, and observational instruments within the PEARS system.
Prepare quarterly and annual reports for internal leadership, funding agencies, and impact documentation.
Training & Development
Design and deliver training for Extension Agents, program assistants, volunteers, and community partners.
Mentor staff in administrative systems including Emburse for travel and expense reconciliation.
Community Engagement & Outreach
Develop and deliver community-based programs focused on wellness, and healthy lifestyle choices.
Serve as liaison between PVAMU and local schools, nonprofits, and health organizations to coordinate recruitment and service delivery.
Curriculum & Resource Development
Create educational materials including newsletters, fact sheets, curricula, and multimedia content to support outreach and program goals.
Participates in CAFNR college wide events.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Nutrition, or related field in program coordination.
Four years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Nutrition, or related field in program coordination, preferably in extension services or public health.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Experience with community-based participatory research and responsive programming.
Familiarity with PVAMU systems and the Wellness in Houston program.
Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish).
Knowledge of PEARS, Emburse, and Cooperative Extension reporting protocols.
Other Requirements:
Will need to travel occasionally and may work weekends.
