Position Summary:
The Program Instructor for the Upward Bound English Language Learners (UBELLs) requires an overall commitment to the policies and procedures of the Center for Pre-College Programs.

Employment and/or continued employment is subject to successfully passing State Mandated Criminal Background Check.

The program operates year-round during the Academic Year (fall and spring) and Summer Sessions Saturday Sessions are 20 Saturdays during the Academic Year from 8:30 am through 2:00 pm.

Summer Session is six (6) weeks, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm.

Essential Functions:
-Provides instruction in relevant grade level academic classes in English as a Second Language (ESL/ELLs) to prepare students for success in high school and college.
-Assists ELLs/ESL students to integrate reading and writing skills.
-Develops students' communicative, study and time management skills and assists in the development of test taking strategies.
-Assists ELLs/ESL students to reduce fear of subjects and helps develop student problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
-Promotes ELLs/ESL students to develop language arts skills in preparation for the state-mandated tests, i.e., PSAT, SAT/ACT.
-Attends all staff development and training sessions.
-Submits lesson plans timely.
-Assists in developing and implementing the Program Curriculum based on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for the program.
-Creates a learning environment that will facilitate the desire to learn and help ELLs/ESL students to gain self-motivation for self-improvement.
-Tests and evaluates the performance and progress of each student and prepares grade reports.
-Assists in the administration, design, and evaluation of standardized diagnostic and placement tests.
-Supervises Teacher Assistant and/or Tutor in the execution of all Essential Functions.
-Participates in the planning and delivery of team-teaching and thematic lesson plans with other teachers in the same subject area and/or grade level.

Additional Functions:
-Performs other duties as assigned.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Teacher Certification in the academic discipline and Bilingual Education.
-2-4 years of teaching experience in the subject area.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience with ELLs/ESL minority and disadvantaged high school students is preferred.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate/range for this position is $30.00 (USD).

NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
