The Program Manager for the MD/PhD Program brings extensive academic, clinical, and research experience to support the success of dual-degree students and the program’s leadership team.

The Program Manager provides individualized guidance to students as they navigate the academic, clinical, and research phases of the program, helping them anticipate challenges and access appropriate resources.

Additionally, the Program Manager serves as a trusted consultant to program leadership, providing recommendations on best practices in medical and scientific training, program development, and student support.

The role also includes contributing to institutional initiatives by assisting with the development and writing of grants that strengthen the program’s resources and long-term sustainability.

This position plays a key role in enhancing the student experience and advancing the mission of the MD/PhD program.

FTE will be determined at the time of hire in conversation with the candidate and supervisor.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic and Institutional Contribution:

  • Contribute expertise to initiatives that advance the program’s mission and reputation.
  • Support the development of proposals and grants to expand resources and strengthen program sustainability.
  • Provide perspective and consultation to leadership on matters of academic policy, student success, and program development.
  • Student Advising and Support:

  • Provide individualized career guidance to MD/PhD trainees.
  • Support student well-being by fostering an environment that promotes success.
  • Address academic, personal, ethical, or environmental issues that may arise during training.
  • Ensure students are prepared for their return to clinical training and supported through residency application preparation.
  • Program and Curriculum Guidance:

  • Focus on the clinical component of MD/PhD training by offering longitudinal mentorship and continuity across phases.
  • Assist trainees in maintaining efficient timelines for degree completion, clinical readiness, and competitive residency placement.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to promote best practices that enhance student outcomes and strengthen program structure.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of medical education and dual-degree (MD/PhD) training pathways, including clinical and research components.
  • Ability to provide individualized advising and longitudinal mentorship that supports academic progress, career planning, and personal well-being.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, faculty, and program leadership.
  • Ability to guide trainees through residency preparation, including application strategies and transitions back to clinical training.
  • Knowledge of academic policies, timelines, and requirements that impact student success.
  • Skill in addressing sensitive academic, personal, and ethical issues with discretion and professionalism.
  • Ability to contribute to program development, strategic planning, and continuous improvement of student support services.
  • Demonstrated ability to support grant development and contribute to securing external funding.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional-level experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant academic, clinical, or administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Terminal degree (MD, PhD, or MD/PhD).

  • Previous service as a clinical faculty member or physician-scientist with experience mentoring medical or graduate trainees.

  • Familiarity with residency application processes, graduate medical education requirements, and the transition from research to clinical training.

  • Demonstrated commitment to student well-being and success, with experience supporting diverse populations.

  • Experience contributing to program development, strategic planning, or curriculum design.

  • Successful track record in grant writing or contributing to externally funded projects.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with leadership teams and provide strategic consultation on academic and administrative matters.
