Posting Description

PROGRAM/PROJECT COORDINATOR, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), to assist with all essential functions of the MIT Committee on Animal Care’s (IACUC) administrative office which serves a community of nearly 150 research labs and 300 individual protocols; and act as a resource and a liaison between the MIT research community and DCM with the goals of maximizing animal welfare and scientific integrity.

Responsibilities include participating in the protocol review process by administratively pre-reviewing animal use proposals, training proposal for veterinary review, determining the level of review required, and facilitating revision and responses between investigators and committee member reviewers; scheduling and leading semi-annual site visits to facilities and animal use areas, generating reports flagging deficiencies, and performing follow-up steps, including post-approval monitoring; assisting with the implementation of an in-house developed electronic protocol software, including training new users to submit research proposals; participating in providing administrative support to the CAC office by answering general email and phone calls and confirming researcher compliance with personnel training and occupational health requirements; and performing other duties as requested.






Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in animal science, biology, or related field; a minimum of two years of administrative and/or program/project management experience, preferably direct IACUC regulatory experience; basic knowledge of issues pertaining to the use and care of animals in research, testing, and instruction; excellent organizational, record-keeping, and written communication skills; proficiency with computers and Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Google Drive, Dropbox, and Adobe Acrobat; commitment to promoting research animal welfare and scientific integrity; and discretion and good judgment with confidential information and/or issues.

PREFERRED: Experience working with laboratory animals in a research setting, and CPIA and/or ALAT/LAT/LATG certification.

This is a two-year term position.
