Project Director-Upward Bound Program ( Full-Time Temporary, Grant-Funded) Job Opening In Dallas – Now Hiring Gaston College


Job description

SUMMARY

Open until filled-

Provide administrative leadership, including planning, supervision, and coordination of the Upward Bound Program and partnership between Gaston College and Gaston County Schools (GCS) to achieve established goals and objectives while adhering to Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR) guidelines.

Position supervises the Program's Academic Advisor and Academic Tutors and reports directly to the Director-Learning, Persistence & Completion Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, train, supervise, and evaluate Upward Bound project staff.

  • Prepare budgets and reports associated with the grant.

  • Coordinate Project activities with related College services, including the current TRiO/SSS grant at Gaston College.

  • Work cooperatively with team members and colleagues, contributing positively and constructively to the achievement of team and College objectives, and provide a high level of service to customers by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and partnerships.

  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism in representing the College, including confidentiality in all aspects of the position's responsibilities and adherence to policies, procedures, and other established guidelines.Adhere to professional accountability and accept responsibility for managing situations and problems.

  • Inform College of Project goals through College publications and website.

  • Inform and update College administration of Project activities.

  • Coordinate communications with GCS Principals, District Office Staff, and Community Agency Staff and inform them of Project eligibility criteria and request support in identifying qualified students.

  • Travel to target schools and other locations for recruitment and related meetings.

  • Work closely with school liaison and other support staff at the target schools to develop a plan and schedule for identification and recruitment activities.

  • Conduct workshops and information sessions for teachers, counselors, and administrators and inform them of Project objectives and eligibility criteria, and the process for referrals.

  • Work with middle school counselors to identify 9th-grade students to participate in the Project as they enter high school.

  • Distribute Program information to school counselors and community organization personnel, and as needed, make forms available in languages other than English.

  • Develop and distribute flyers and newsletters for potential participants and parents.

  • Invite potentially eligible students and their parents to an Upward Bound Application Workshop.

  • Conduct information sessions at school open house events to inform students and parents of program services/activities.

  • Review and assess referrals from counselors, teachers, and community agencies.

  • Develop and participate in summer academic and bridge programs.

  • Participate in community forums related to youth/education.

  • Conduct information sessions for community organization personnel.

  • Distribute Project newsletter in school and community locations.

  • Present Program information to various local non-profit organization boards.

  • Assist with updating information materials, brochures, flyers, website, and social media.

  • Perform academic advising duties as needed.

  • Participate in cross-training to assist in other Student Affairs departments as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in administration, counseling, education, student personnel, or a related field required.
  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least two years of experience in a supervisory role required.
  • At least four years of experience working with disadvantaged populations preferred.
  • At least two years of advising low-income, first-generation students preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, budget management, and planning skills required.
  • Experience with FERPA and other confidentiality policies required.
  • Prior training on retention issues in higher education, youth counseling and advising, and working with disadvantaged populations required.
  • Experience producing formal data reports required.
  • Experience with database/spreadsheet software and documenting services required.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 15 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, and bending required.
  • Work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
  • In addition to regular office hours, position may sometimes require overtime, evening, and/or weekend hours.
