Project Engineer - Drainage/Wastewater

Westwood Professional Services, Inc.

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Public Infrastructure Design team in our Houston, TX office.

Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

Our ideal candidate will have 3+ years of diverse infrastructure design experience in storm sewer & detention systems and water/wastewater systems.

Candidates must have a willingness to perform a variety of tasks supporting various project types and project managers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work as a key member of an infrastructure design team under the direction of various Project Managers.

Job duties may include, but are not limited to

  • Executes infrastructure development civil engineering projects efficiently
  • Supports public infrastructure development civil teams to produce civil plan sets.
  • Prepare detailed construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Oversee the technical aspects of various projects
  • Identify applicable codes, standards or other design requirements
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, support services and sub-consultants
  • Communicate/manage technical details as well as schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate with government agencies, utility providers or other outside agencies
  • Participate in contract bidding, provide limited observation during construction, review submittal and RFIs
  • Works with city/county staff to approve project plans.
  • Implements QA/QC program and ensures compliance within project team.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and allocate resources through differing project stages.
  • Administers the construction services portions of projects including RFI response, site meetings with contractors, etc.
  • Mentor, train, and/or supervise the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel
  • Required Skills

  • Demonstrates competence in fundamental civil engineering design principles.
  • Experienced in cost estimating, bid phase assistance construction administration, and general construction methods.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer aided design (CAD/Civil 3D) and production software and ability to learn new versions or new technology.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self initiative to meet project deadlines
  • Detail oriented with an ability to contribute to a positive environment
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Ability to delegate assignment and determine methods and procedures
  • Required Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of four (3)+ years of total experience in public infrastructure design.
  • FE complete
  • Preferred Experience

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas preferred but not needed
  • Prepping for and completing PE exam within the next few years
  • Design of stormwater systems, detention basins, water and wastewater network design in the Houston area.
  • Water/Wastewater modeling preferred but not required
