In September of 2020, American Water was awarded a 50-year contract to privatize the water and wastewater utilities at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Washington state.

JBLM is the DoD’s premiere military installation on the West Coast.

JBLM was formed in 2010 after the consolidation of Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base.

It is a joint force power projection platform for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines.

JBLM is home to the Army's I Corps and the Air Force's 62nd Airlift Wing, as well as several reserve components.

The joint base has a population of approximately 110,000 people including, 40,000 active duty, 60,000 family members and 15,000 civilian and contract employees.

American Water will provide water treatment, storage, and distribution across JBLM.

As a whole, the water system includes approximately 1.67 million linear feet of water pipe, 1,957 hydrants, 9,138 valves, 21 wells, and 28 tanks.

The wastewater collection system includes a wastewater treatment plant and approximately 1.2 million linear feet of pipe, 3,120 manholes, and 99 lift stations.

Job Details Salary Range: $68,640 - $114,660 The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position.

This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth.

If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience.

American Water is also proud to offer employees learning opportunities and work experiences to grow professionally! _ *Primary Role*_ Carries out engineering tasks and activities on assigned water and wastewater projects, under the direction of one or more managers by performing the following duties personally or through work with other team members.

Performance Measurements: Performance of a project engineer in the Engineering group will be primarily measured against demonstrated success in developing and delivering project work products that are of high quality and prepared within the limits of contracted schedule and budget.

Additional goals will be established at yearly performance review.

_ *Key Accountabilities*_ * Undertakes assignments and activities related to the development of water and wastewater infrastructure projects including preparation of feasibility studies, acquisition of permits and design of facilities.

* Typical projects include, but are not limited to, potable water wells, treatment facilities, storage tanks and water distribution systems along with sewage collection, pumping stations, septic systems and wastewater treatment facilities.

* Performs engineering calculations, contributes to the preparation of engineering and project reports, conducts field investigations, develops engineering cost estimates and prepares design sketches and drawings, all under the supervision of a manager.

* Assists in the development of new business documents and proposals.

* Prepares portions of project reports for project management.

_ *Experience/Education*_ * Bachelor’s Degree in civil, Environmental, Mechanical or related field.

* Engineering experience in water resources utility or related field.

* Over 5 years minimum experience in water and wastewater industry.

_ *Certifications/Licenses*_ * Minimum of Engineer in Training (EIT) required.

* Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred.

_ *Work Environment*_ * 60% office 40% field.

* In addition to American Water’s pre-employment screenings, this position requires the ability to pass a Department of Defense background check for access to the military installation.

Travel Requirements 20% of time.
