Job description

Job Title:



  •                Project Engineer FLSA Status:          Exempt Department:           Operations Summary: The Project Engineer I will be responsible for assisting a Project Manager and Superintendent on a construction management project both in the office and on the project site.

  • The Project Engineer I will assist with scheduling preparation, pre-planning and resource forecasting for engineering and other technical activities relating to the project.
  • The Project Engineer I manages the project team resources and overall quality control of the work to ensure projects are completed according to project plans and specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Communicate with subcontractors, vendors and architects to ensure that projects are completed on time and at the price budgeted and agreed upon with the individual, business or agency providing funding.

  • Frequently visit the construction site to monitor the progress and catch any problems that may occur.
  • Assist with drawing & document coordination to include sending drawings to bidding subcontractors via electronic transfer, FedEx & UPS.
  • Keep project documents organized, as well as distribute documents to all parties involved with a project.
  • Prepare submittals, meeting minutes, change orders, bid proposals, etc.
  • Develop and maintain project matrices for document control and use Excel spreadsheets and ComputerEase software to track documents, RFl's, drawings, and change orders.
  • This position will be exposed to cost estimating, planning, scheduling, materials procurement, cost control, and quality management.
  • Meet all project deadlines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:



  • Associate Degree or two years of college curriculum in civil engineering, construction management, construction science, or architecture and zero to two years related experience.

  • Prior construction estimating experience is a plus.

Language Ability:



  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Math Ability:



  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebra, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Reasoning Ability:



  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Required Skills:



  • To perform this job successfully, an employee must be able to read blue prints/specification and effectively use the following computer programs within a reasonable amount of time: Blueprint Reading Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Outlook & Word Microsoft Project Ujamaa FTP site Planswift 10 Suretrak / Microsoft Project ComputerEase Core Competencies: Organization - Utilizes strong organizational skills.

  • Communication - Displays strong written and oral communication skills and effective listening skills.
  • Problem Solving - Analyze problems and makes sound decisions in a timely manner based on objectives, risks, implications and costs.
  • Interpersonal Skills - Tactful and mature demeanor with well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with diverse personalities.
  • Phone Skills - Utilizes proper phone etiquette.
  • Must have a strong fundamental knowledge of engineering and management principles, and a knowledge of business procedures, economics, and human behavior.
