Prop Load Technician 2nd Shift, Project Kuiper

Job description

Description
Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network.

Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

The success of Kuiper depends on the quality, reliability, cost, integration, throughput, and security of the products that you deliver.

If you seek a fast-paced, dynamic environment; if you thrive on solving difficult problems where resolutions have high impact; and if you love the challenge of building something from scratch, then this role will be an ideal next career step.

To be successful you need to be highly motivated and detail oriented while showing the highest standards of execution.

Key job responsibilities
• Primarily second-shift, but shift schedule may vary depending on production/processing/launch schedules
• Successfully process Kuiper satellites through Propellant Loading preps, fill, and securing according to technical work instructions
• Independently execute and prioritize work to meet production schedules
• Rigging and critical lifts of bulky, sensitive flight hardware
• Able to obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits, and/or certifications as required
• Use precision calibrated tools – torque wrenches, multimeters, optical inspection devices, micrometers, and calipers
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
• Perform work according to procedures, specifications, and test instructions
• Check and inspect your work after completion to ensure engineering and quality standards are met per the drawing and work instruction requirements
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to develop and document activities, including continuous improvement opportunities
• Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient, safe, and effective work environment
• Must be willing and able to perform extended travel, either domestically or internationally as business needs demand.

A day in the life
Upon arrival to the PPF, the second-shift Prop Load Technician will meet with the SAT Zone engineer(s) and technician lead(s) for debrief on first shift's progress and challenges, take-over in-process activities (satellite propellant-loading and securing), and set-up satellites for first-shift the following day.

The technician will be assigned tasks based on their skills, optimal process flow/timing, and processing/launch manifest needs.

As a Level 3 (senior) technician, you will be expected to be able to independently perform work and train others on the Prop Load Team's tasks.

Valuable skills and experience for this role include a variety of aerospace operational disciplines, including mechanical assembly, propellant loading (or similar spacecraft pneumatic/propulsion operations), pneumatic and electrical control system troubleshooting/rework, and rigging/crane/forklift operations

In short, you will be responsible for some of the most critical tasks to process and integrate each Kuiper satellite for launch, ensuring high quality, workmanship, and safety standards are adhered to on a daily basis.

About the team
The Propellant Loading Team is part of the Satellite Processing Zone at Project Kuiper's Payload Processing Facilities.

The Prop Load team's mission is to safely, consistently, and efficiently load Krypton propellant on all 3,236 satellites that will be launched to populate the Project Kuiper constellation.

The team is based at the Comet PPF in Kennedy Space Center, and travels to support propulsion operations at other PPFs as the launch manifest requires.
Basic Qualifications

• Senior technician experience in a fast-paced, high-precision aerospace processing environment
• Experience with cleanroom environments, working with Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) sensitive flight hardware
