Summary: Manages product quality and shares concrete knowledge to fellow employees and customers by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs ongoing ACI & ASTM concrete and raw materials testing. Imports test data into appropriate spreadsheets or software.
- Evaluates existing quality or production standards and procedures and recommends modifications to upper management.
- Educates plant personnel on product quality, batching efficiency and Verifi utilization.
- Educates ready-mix drivers on product quality and Verifi utilization.
- Investigates and evaluates product anomalies at plants and jobsites.
- Advises upper management on product issues arising from problems identified through technical support calls and visual inspections with plant personnel and customers.
- Conducts audits and makes ongoing improvements to material handling procedures, batching and driver habits.
- Visits job sites, attends pre-pour meetings, calls on customers, collects market and job information. Reviews Verifi data for product consistency.
- Advises and assists plant personnel value-added products ( fibers) and temperature control methods.
- Assists in the laboratory with new product testing.
- Completes all required paperwork (reports, forms, letters, etc.).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience:
Degree from college, university or technical school and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience
- Current, valid state driver's license required.
- Satisfactory driving and criminal record.
- ACI Field Grade 1 Certification required, or ability to pass written and hands on test within 6 months of hire
- Demonstrates effective communication skills (oral and written).
- Demonstrates proficiency with simple math calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division (especially percentages) as well as measurements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel
- Demonstrates ability to successfully handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrates ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks.
- Demonstrates ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates ability to identify and solve problems.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent/occasional reaching, grabbing and pulling of testing equipment and material samples.
- Frequent/occasional use of fingers, wrists and hands to enter data via computer keyboard.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional/frequent climbing of steps and ladders.
- Occasional/frequent stooping, squatting, bending, kneeling and twisting.
- Occasional pushing and pulling.
- Must be able differentiate colors.
- Must be able to hear noises.
Environmental Conditions (Personal protective equipment is provided where required or requested)
- Exposure to elements of weather to include extremes in heat, cold, dust and moisture for limited periods.
- Occasionally/frequently exposed to rough, muddy and icy walking surface conditions.
- Intermittent exposure to high noise levels and vibration.
- Occasional/frequent exposure to moving parts/pieces of equipment.
- Frequent exposure to cement, concrete, admixtures, dust, diesel fuel, and other substances that may cause burns, be toxic or explosive if handled incorrectly.
