Position Summary

Are you passionate about Texas Wesleyan and have a desire to assist prospective students with the admissions process?

Are you seeking a flexible on-campus job?

Do you like speaking in a large group setting and assisting one-on-one over the phone?In this position, students will have the opportunity to represent Texas Wesleyan in several ways.

Through the Rambassador program, students will receive training and develop skills in problem-solving, public speaking, professionalism, organization, time-management, and interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain a positive and welcoming atmosphere for all campus visitors.

  • Serve as an advocate for the University by greeting and orienting campus visitors.

  • Serve as front desk support for the Office of Admissions.

    This will require answering phones, running errands, and keeping track of inventory.

  • Serve as a tour guide for the Office of Admissions.

    This will require leading prospective students and families on campus tours throughout the week and on occasional weekends.

  • Assist in maintaining an organized and tidy lobby, offices, and storage areas.

  • Prepare for campus tours by arriving early for your assigned tour time and becoming familiar with registered guests.

  • Create rapport with prospective students and families through conversations.

  • Distribute promotional materials and answer questions.

  • When hosting a tour, provide specific information about the size, academics, student life programs, facilities, value, and history of Texas Wesleyan.

  • When assisting a student over the phone or in person, maintain professionalism by providing quality customer service in an accurate and timely manner.

  • During campus tours: conduct campus tours on foot, ensure the safety of the group, ensure all visitors adhere to university policies and guidelines, examine facilities and infrastructure on a regular basis and notify supervisor if repairs are needed.

  • While assisting the front desk, provide support for the admissions staff by the following: assist with event set-up and clean-up, keep the fridge stocked with water bottles for staff and guests, help keep the staff breakroom clean, and perform mail runs and other errands on campus.

  • Participate in mandatory Rambassador training prior to the start of the semester, as well as ongoing training and staff development.

  • Possess knowledge of or be willing to learn and retain information regarding the admissions process, academic programs, campus events and other information regarding Texas Wesleyan that can be provided to prospective students.

  • Attend meetings to stay up to date on information, schedule, and events.
  • Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher to be considered for the position.
  • Experience
  • Freshman or higher classification at the time of official start date.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to be personable and outgoing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with a diverse group of visitors.

  • Ability to provide quality customer service.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other University employees.

  • Ability to move around the campus to give tours and run errands.

  • Ability to be discreet in handling confidential matters, while complying with privacy (FERPA) regulations.

  • Ability to complete job tasks and assignments thoroughly, appropriately, and in a timely manner.

  • Ability to attend all training courses throughout the year.

  • Ability to avoid situations that may compromise credibility, integrity and/or reputation of the Office of Admissions and the University.

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent personal and professional judgment.

  • Ability to maintain a neat & professional appearance and office atmosphere.

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, standard correspondence, and memos.

  • Ability to write simple correspondence.

  • Strong dependability – reliable, responsible, and dependable

  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

  • Ability to clean and organize different areas of the department.

  • Ability to physically complete all tasks required.
