ReadMe is hiring: Demand Generation Marketer in San Francisco

Job description

Location: Remote or Hybrid (SF or NYC)

ReadMe is looking for a Demand Generation Marketer to get more people to discover, try, and fall in love with our product.

You'll lead creative, developer-first campaigns that blend storytelling, experimentation, and thoughtful execution.

One week, you might be amplifying a blog post or getting the word out about a new AI feature.

The next, you're planning a memorable event (with an abundance of owl plushies), launching a partner campaign, or testing out new channels to bring more startups into the fold.

You'll help make sure our product updates don't just ship, but get seen.

And you'll do it all while erring on the side of whimsy (one of our values)...finding playful ways to connect with developers and building real relationships along the way.

We're a small team of humans (and one owl ) working together to shape the developer landscape through documentation-and we're growing! That's where you come in.

Who we are

ReadMe helps companies build beautiful, personalized, and interactive developer hubs.

If you've ever visited the developer docs for Apple or Notion, you've used ReadMe! We love what we do because it's so much more than just docs.

We're providing tools for teams to create and manage beautiful documentation with ease.

You can read more about what it's like to work at ReadMe on our careers page.

We've written on our blog in the past about how we interview, and feel free to browse our other blog posts as well if it strikes your fancy!

• What you'll do here

  • Help grow our developer community through meetups, virtual events, 1:1 interactions, office hours, and swag-driven connection moments.

We want every touchpoint to feel personal-whether that's mailing out plush owls or sending confetti cannons to new signups.

  • Create and distribute product-led content-blog posts, tutorials, changelogs, newsletters, guides, and social threads-that developers actually want to read.

You'll get our point-of-view out there and amplify product updates in fun, strategic ways.

  • Help amplify our brand (and our Founder Greg's) voice across platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, Bluesky, as well as via podcasts.

Whether it's positioning ourselves against competitors or co-marketing with cool new startups, we want people to feel the ReadMe vibe.

  • Plan and run demand generation campaigns across a mix of channels (social, email, events, partnerships, ads, and more).

You'll help us test and scale what works while experimenting with new levers-outbound sequences, startup-friendly plans, partner co-marketing, and more.

  • Collaborate with Sales to craft programs that drive pipeline -integrating content, outbound assets, product marketing, and lead generation into a cohesive strategy.

You'll love this job if...
  • Excited to operate at the intersection of customer growth, creativity, and technical storytelling-and always looking for clever ways to spark conversations within the developer community.

  • A strong generalist who loves wearing multiple hats: content writer, campaign planner, swag wrangler, launch lead, and event host.

  • Curious and scrappy-eager to test fun ideas, improve existing flows, or build new playbooks that get customers excited about ReadMe.
  • Comfortable talking about technical products (even if you're not writing the code), and confident adapting language and tone depending on the audience.

  • Experienced on small teams or startups, where there's a lot to build and not a lot of red tape.

Bonus Points
  • You've used tools like HubSpot, GA, and Salesforce.

  • You've written code, contributed to a dev community, or worked in a technical environment.

How you'll grow in one month
  • Learn the ins and outs of ReadMe's product and customers.

  • Meet your cross-functional partners across Ops, Product, Sales, and Customer Success.

  • Review our current marketing assets (e.g. onboarding emails, landing pages, event collateral) and recommend your first campaign.

Within a few months, you'll...
  • Launch your first campaign-from idea to creative to execution to measurement.

  • Help support a product launch with messaging, content, and amplification.

  • Run a mini event or initiative to connect with the developer community.

Within your first year, you'll...

  • Build out a repeatable playbook for demand generation campaigns.

  • Create a cadence of campaigns, content, and events that drive signups and pipeline.

What's the hiring process like?
  • We can't wait to read your resume and (hopefully personality-filled) cover letter! Let us know what excites you about developer products, and help us get to know you better.

  • If we think we might be a good fit for you, we'll set up a 30 minute phone chat with Justina, our Head of Marketing.

She'll tell you more about the role, and get a chance to hear about your experiences.

  • Next will be a second 30 minute phone interview with Pat, ReadMe's COO, where he'll dive a bit more into your background.

  • Then we'll invite you to an onsite interview conducted over Zoom! These usually take 3.5 to 5 hours including an hour break in between.

We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you with the team so you can meet the people you'll be working with, and then have you talk with people one-on-one later on.

  • We'll let you know how things went within a week! If it still seems like a good fit all around, we'll extend you an offer.

If not, we will update you to let you know so you aren't left hanging.

Our benefits include...
  • Unlimited PTO with a three-week minimum.

  • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and your dependents.

  • A One Medical membership.

  • A wellness stipend for therapy of up to $350 per month for up to 6 months.

  • A wellness stipend of up to $150 per month.

  • One-to-one donation matching of up to $1,000 per year.

  • Twelve weeks of paid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child.

  • Work from home office stipend of $500.

  • Three offsite retreats per year to get together with coworkers and plan for the quarter ahead.

  • Take a look at our handbook for more information on our benefits!

At ReadMe, we're committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace.

We welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives.

We are an equal opportunity employer and a pleasant and supportive place to work.

We'd love to have you come join us here! ReadMe is open to hiring folks fully remote in the US, hybrid, or in-person at our San Francisco or NYC offices.
