This position is one member of a two-person team responsible for in-depth reference services, collection development, and training relating to the Law Library’s world-renowned collection of foreign, comparative, and international law (FCIL).
The FCIL Librarians work in the Research & Scholarship Department and with the Collections & Access Services Department; they report to the Associate Director for Research & Scholarship.
Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Serving as a member of the Law Library’s Reference Team, the candidate is expected to:
+ Provide high-caliber American and FCIL legal reference service to Law School faculty and students;
+ Deliver proactive and personalized library services for faculty, such as complex research, research assistant training, or the tracking of faculty scholarship;
+ Provide specialized legal research instruction; teaching formats may include live lectures, online presentations, individual consultations, or other written materials such as research guides;
+ Assist in the staffing of the in-person and virtual reference desk, a task that entails some evening and weekend hours;
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
+ Serving as a member of the Law Library’s Collections Team:
+ Develop and manage the FCIL collection in print and electronic formats;
+ Collaborate with the Acquisitions Team to further develop and manage the FCIL collection;
+ Evaluate new FCIL websites and databases and share in the maintenance of public webpages that list these resources;
+ Cooperate with counterparts at other research libraries to share information about FCIL resources.
+ Serving as a librarian within the Law Library:
+ Support and contribute to an equitable, inclusive, empathetic, kind, efficient, respectful, communicative, and collaborative work community;
+ Participate in and/or chair Law Library committees in support of our mission, goals, and strategic initiatives;
+ Engage in professional development, staying up-to-date on trends, technology, and resources.
Classification
This is a non-tenure track faculty (Continuing Contract Faculty/Assistant Librarian of Practice) position and after an initial contract, is eligible for multi-year contracts.
Salary
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $75,000 - $115,000.
New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidates work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Required Qualifications & Experience:
+ J.D. (or equivalent) from accredited institutions;
+ Demonstrated ability to provide in-depth and complex legal research and reference support;
+ A thorough knowledge of traditional and new legal and non-legal resources and techniques and an aptitude to stay current with emerging trends;
+ A self-starter who is comfortable working independently and within a collegial team environment;
+ Candidates must be sensitive to the needs and possess an interest in working in a broad academic community with different viewpoints and backgrounds;
+ A strong customer-service orientation;
+ A history of involvement in professional activities and/or a history of scholarly work (e.g., professional publications).
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
· M.L.S. We will also consider candidates who are in the process of obtaining their degree, or have an interest in pursuing a degree.
Support may be available to those currently pursuing or considering pursuing a M.L.S. degree;
· 1–3 years of professional law library experience, with academic library experience strongly preferred;
· Reading proficiency in German, Chinese, and/or other languages.
