Regional Environmental Engineer, AWS Environmental Team Job Opening In Columbus – Now Hiring Amazon

Join a diverse, dynamic and enthusiastic team of environmental compliance professionals who play a leading role in environmental permitting and compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where we have a history of leading the world in innovative technologies and services.

The work of our Regional Environmental Engineers is critical to enabling AWS's growth in the US and around the world.

As a Regional Environmental Engineer (REE), you will be responsible for environmental compliance at AWS data centers in Ohio.

You will develop standards and policies to support regulatory compliance, complete environmental performance analysis, establish and monitor metrics, and guide the teams in implementation of Amazon environmental standards.

You will provide guidance and build effective relationships with internal and external partners, including government entities, contractors, consultants, design, construction, operations and other key stakeholders.

This position is based in Columbus, Ohio and will require travel throughout the state.

Key job responsibilities
• Manage and oversee compliance with environmental regulations and Amazon policy;
• Drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization;
• Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards;
• Develop environmental metrics to measure, monitor and forecast performance;
• Conduct thorough and accurate environmental audits for continuous improvement;
• Prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently;
• Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company;
• Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to ensure risks are identified early and managed appropriately;
• Assist in time-critical report submission to various governmental agencies;
• Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports and develop appropriate corrective action.

About the team
The AWS Environmental team is an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWS’s growth around the world, as well as ensuring compliance of AWS’s global operations, including physical data centers, as well as other AWS facilities, customer-facing enterprises and products.

The team has responsibility for architecting and implementing AWS’s global environmental programs.

This includes defining and implementing risk management and compliance systems and driving their continuous improvement; setting and refining global policies and procedures; overseeing the development of standards, tools, auditing and metrics, and employee training; ensuring effective engagement by environmental teams on global initiatives, including those that are part of Amazon’s ambitious sustainability goals; providing specialist expertise; and engaging with all AWS business units to provide scalable and effective compliance strategies that support current and future business objectives while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
Basic Qualifications
• BA/BS degree in chemistry, chemical or environmental engineering, or related field of study
• 5+ years of experience serving as an environmental technical resource, compliance specialist, or regulatory program manager
• 5+ years of experience with regulatory assessments, air emissions evaluations, water discharge requirements, and waste management
• Broad knowledge of US environmental regulations

• Experience leading change in multiple site environments and the ability to influence those that are not direct reports or within your organization
• Experience successfully implementing environmental systems and compliance programs in operational settings
• Experience in a fast-paced, changing/growing organization
• Excellent organizational and project management skills
• Strong interpersonal skills: strong relationship builder, solid influencing and negotiation skills, and ability to coach at multiple levels
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability
• Proficient with MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets.

The base pay for this position ranges from $98,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,800/year in our highest geographic market.

Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
