Job description

This is a remote position.

The Remote Data Entry Operator will form an integral part of Hobies back-office operational support by accurately entering, managing, and maintaining critical data related to sales, inventory, orders, vendor information, and customer records.

Given Hobies global footprintincluding distribution in over 70 countries and recent re-structuring of production in the U.S.this role ensures the data driving logistics, manufacturing, and customer-facing systems remains timely and reliable.

Key Responsibilities Enter and update data into company systems: inventory databases, e-commerce sales orders, distributor orders, customer profiles, shipping/receiving logs, and vendor purchase orders.

Review source documents (e.g., invoices, shipment manifests, returns, order logs) for completeness and accuracy before data entry; identify and flag inconsistencies and follow up with relevant teams.

Reconcile data across systems (for example: compare physical inventory counts vs.

system records; orders vs.

shipped status) and prepare discrepancy reports for management review.

Maintain spreadsheets and databases: regular updates, data clean-up (duplicates, outdated entries), ensure consistency in naming conventions and code fields.

Generate routine and ad-hoc reports summarizing key metricssuch as inventory turnover, order processing delays, vendor lead-time, return ratesand distribute to relevant teams.

Operate remotely but collaborate with cross-functional teams: sales, logistics/warehouse, manufacturing, and vendor relations to gather missing information, verify inputs, and support data integrity.

Uphold data confidentiality and security standards: manage sensitive information about customers and vendors, ensure policies for remote work, backups, access controls are followed.

Identify process improvement opportunities: suggest automation, macros, templates or system enhancements to increase efficiency and reduce errors.

Requirements High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or certificate in business administration, data management, or related field preferred.

Proven experience in a data entry, clerical, administrative or remote support rolepreferably in a manufacturing, retail, distribution or e-commerce environment.

Strong typing skills (e.g., 50 + words per minute) and excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Proficiency in spreadsheet software (Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets); familiarity with database systems or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is a plus.

Excellent organisational and time-management skills; ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

Strong communication skillscapable of coordinating with remote and on-site teams, asking clarifying questions, and following up as needed.

Reliable remote work setup: stable internet connection, quiet workspace, self-motivated and comfortable working with virtual tools and communications.
