Job description

Come work with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries! We'reseeking a dynamic, collaborative, and forward-thinking candidatefor the Repository Services Librarian role as part ofthe Research Data, Public Access, and Digital Scholarship Services team.You will be joining the team at an exciting time in which you can help influence the future and improve the functionality of the repository.

The Repository Services Librarian supports the sharing of UW-Madison's scholarly outputs through our institutional repository, MINDS@UW, as the service lead and primary user support contact.

This role will work closely with the incoming Repository Specialist, as well as colleagues in IT and Research Data Services, to advance and improve the repository both for current and anticipated future researcher needs.

This role will monitor, maintain, and enhance IR services as well as support communication and outreach efforts.

Responsibilities:

Provides a wide variety of the most advanced professional library services which may include metadata creation, acquisitions, licensing, preservation, digital library, and data services.

Serves as a resource to others and regularly solves complex problems based on advanced knowledge and expertise.

Initiates process improvements, policy changes, and new initiatives to contribute towards continual improvement in services and operations.

  • 5% Provides expertise in the analysis, planning, development, and deployment of resources to search, manipulate, and preserve information
  • 20% Oversees day-to-day functions of one or more library operations or services
  • 5% Identifies and evaluates preservation and curation needs and determines preservation strategies
  • 10% Provisions access to and discovery of electronic resources, coordinates online access, and troubleshoots issues to provide library patrons with consistent access
  • 15% Consults with campus entities on preservation, curation, and data services solutions
  • 15% Serves as a resource to other librarians and staff both within and outside of their work unit on a regular basis
  • 15% Initiates and solicits input to modify policies, procedures, and assessment tools to improve workflows and/or user experiences
  • 10% Serves on committees to advance librarianship at the campus, local, and/or state and national levels
  • 5% May direct the day-to-day activities of student workers

Tasks:

  • Service lead for the institutional repository (IR) platform and service
  • Primary contact for user support of the IR service
  • Provide training and conduct outreach to current and potential IR user communities, including Universities of Wisconsin system school librarians
  • Maintain and improve IR policies and workflows
  • Coordinate with Repository Specialist as well as internal and external partners to develop roadmaps and implement projects to improve features and workflows
  • Curate submitted research data for the IR and the Data Curation Network

-Experience with technical management or service management tasks such as user-support, troubleshooting, user experience improvements, policy development, documentation, data curation, metadata standards, or other relevant experience
-Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across audiences, disciplines, and both technical and non-technical collaborators
-Demonstrated ability to manage collaborative projects with varied stakeholders
-Demonstrated knowledge of repository best practices, as well as research data management, scholarly communication, and open scholarship standards and trends

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience with common digital repository platforms, DSpace preferred
-Experience managing or leading institutional repository services or other academic library services
-Experience with instruction, technical training, or conducting outreach activities
