Job description

*_POSITION SUMMARY_* *Location: On-site at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, Baltimore, Maryland* The University of Maryland School of Pharmacy is conducting an open search for a Research Assistant Professor or Research Associate Professor, non-tenure track, in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.Theprimary scope of the position is to perform experimental research under the direction of the Mass Spectrometry Center Director.

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in the area ofproteomics.

Research interests should be compatible with other current strategic areas of expansion including: Chemistry of Life Processes; Complex Biological Systems & Quantitative Biosciences; Clinical Translational Sciences and Experimental Therapeutics; Imaging, Modeling & Simulation; CNS Diseases and Drug Addiction.

The position is a full-time, non-tenure-track, 12-month appointment based at the Baltimore, Maryland Campus.This position requires scholarly activity, teaching, service to the school, campus and the profession, and the ability to engage in the application of mass spectrometry-based experimental approaches to research studies.

*_SUPERVISORY CONTROLS_* This position is responsible to the Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences with research reporting responsibility to the Director of the Mass Spectrometry Center.

*_ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS_* * Development and application of mass spectrometry-based experimental approaches.

* Ensure validity and accuracy of data and compliance with quality control requirements.

* Design research projects, analyze findings, develop conclusions, write reports, prepare presentations of relevant findings and conclusions.

* Perform required data extraction and report on progress of programs, studies, and/or projects.

* Summarize and prepare manuscripts, presentations, and proposals by providing and presenting relevant data.

* Develop and formulate best practices and protocols in data collection, warehousing, analysis, and reporting.

* Perform additional duties as assigned.

*_SCHOLARSHIP_* Engage in scholarly activity in areas of interest.

Scholarly activity is defined broadly and includes, for example, proteomics, LC-MS/MS-based approaches, data analysis and informatics for mass spectrometry-based data, development of new mass spectrometry-based methods and experimental designs.

Level of scholarly involvement will be commensurate with an academic appointment on the non-tenure track; consistent publication and presentation of work are expected.

*_TEACHING_* Participation in instruction in the candidate’s area of expertise.

*_SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY, SCHOOL, AND PUBLIC_* Participation in appropriate faculty activities (e.g., faculty assembly, department meetings, and faculty committees), professional organizations, and other endeavors is expected.

*_MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS_* Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline and postdoctoral experience.

Experience with proteomics and bioinformatics is required.

Additional experience with complementary LC-MS-based approaches and computer programming is desired.

*_KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES_* * Ability to design experimental approaches, research studies, collection procedures and data analysis.

* Knowledge of mass spectrometry-based techniques including proteomics-related techniques.

* Knowledge of bioinformatics associated with mass spectrometry-based techniques including proteomics-related techniques.

* Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.

* Knowledge of theoretical, conceptual and writing support on research analysis and findings.

* Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.

* Ability to work as part of a team and independently perform or lead research activities.
