**Position Overview:**

The Stanford Institute for Materials and Energy Sciences (SIMES), a joint institute between the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and Stanford University, is seeking a Ph.D. Postdoctoral Research Associate with research interests in materials studies and in non-equilibrium magnetic materials and phenomena.

Particular interest for this position in the thermodynamic and dynamic control of magnetization and topological spin textures in amorphous thin film materials with strong spin-orbit interactions.

Ideally, the candidate would also have expertise in ultrafast or resonant x-ray scattering.

This position will involve the study of fluctuations in magnetic materials, mainly through the use of coherent x-ray methods.

It will involve work at the Linac Coherent Light Source, as well as travel for experiments at other X-ray Free Electron Laser facilities, such as in Germany and South Korea.

A strong and motivated scientist is sought for complex experiments at XFEL facilities, as well as to plan experiments at the Linac Coherent Light Source¿II facility at SLAC, currently in operation.

Additionally, candidates with expertise in advanced computer analysis methods and handling massive data sets is also highly desirable, due to the nature of these types of experiments.

**To be successful in this position you will bring:**

+ Ph.D. in physics, mathematics, materials sciences, chemistry, or related fields.
+ Research background in the study of magnetic materials, preferably in chiral spin textures.
+ Demonstrated effective written and verbal communications skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse.
+ Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

**Preferred Qualification:**

+ Some x-ray experience is desirable, but not required

This is a one-year appointment beginning immediately, with the possibility of an extension for 1-2 additional years.

_The expected pay range for this position is $70,000 - $100,000 per annum.
