Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.

Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city.

Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.

The Department of Health and Exercise Science ( HES ) is one of eight academic programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences.

Colorado State University is Colorado’s land grant institution and holds the Doctoral/Research University – Extensive classification from the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.

Faculty in the Department of Health and Exercise Science conduct innovative research in state of the art facilities, with an emphasis on basic, translational, and clinical applications in the area of chronic and age-related diseases.

We are committed to our goal of producing nationally and internationally recognized research programs and graduates that are focused on helping people protect and improve their health and quality of life throughout the lifespan.

The Department has ~1100 undergraduate majors, 30-35 graduate students (about 60% PhD and 40% MS).

Ten new faculty members (7 tenure-track) have joined the department since 2015.

Research activities within the department are supported by the NIH , the American Heart Association, the National Cancer Institute, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and other federal, state, and industry sponsors.

The Human Performance Clinical Research Laboratory is a center for interdisciplinary research, training and outreach that contains 17,000 sq.

feet of dedicated, state of the art research space with a full-time physician on staff and an in-house compliance/regulatory/safety team (https://www.chhs.colostate.edu/hes-hpcrl/).

Department faculty have academic or affiliate appointments in several schools and departments, including the Colorado School of Public Health, the Prevention Research Center, Biomedical Sciences, and Food Science and Human Nutrition.

Faculty regularly collaborate with the University of Colorado Health-North and the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Position Summary
The department of Health and Exercise Science ( HES ) seeks applications throughout the year from individuals who are interested in obtaining a temporary (i.e., time-limited) research position.

These positions include interaction with the Principal Investigator as well as other research associates.

These individuals will have a broad range of responsibilities which may include but are not limited to:

+ General lab organization and ordering of supplies.

+ Management of records associated with compliance with Human or Animal Institutional Review Board protocols and guidelines.

+ Recruitment, screening, and testing of human volunteers ranging from 18-95 years of age.

+ Exercise testing and training of human volunteers.

+ Survey testing of human participants.

+ Data collection and subsequent analysis using custom computer programs.

+ Data entry and management of electronic data records.

+ Statistical analysis.

+ Training other personnel in data collection and analysis.

+ Supervision of the activities of undergraduate and graduate student research assistants.

+ Physiological experiments with animals.

+ Handling of laboratory animals and tissue/blood samples.

+ Participate in professional development opportunities as appropriate.

+ Write reports, check documentation, maintain inventory, maintain critical data, insure compliance with grant criteria, supervise administrative support staff.


Required Job Qualifications

+ Applicants applying for aResearch Associate Iposition must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Biomedical Sciences, or related discipline.

+ Applicants applying for aResearch Associate IIposition must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Biomedical Sciences, or related discipline plus 3 years relevant professional experienceora Master’s degree in related discipline.


Preferred Job Qualifications

+ Master’s degree in appropriate discipline preferred for RA I positions

+ Doctoral degree in appropriate discipline for RAII positions

+ For basic science research positions, experience with basic biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell culture techniques is preferred.

+ Experience with graded exercise testing and background in human physiology and/or biomechanics preferred.

+ Experience in observational research, surveys, and questionnaires preferred.

+ Other research experience with data collection and analysis, familiarity with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and a statistical software package preferred.

+ Applicants should have prior experience in the day-to-day organization of research projects, including recruitment of and contact with study participants, coordination of data collection activities, and data management preferred.
