Position Highlights The Materials Science and Engineering department (MSE) is seeking a Research Engineer with expertise in maintaining and operating metal additive manufacturing equipment.
The ideal candidate will be able to contribute to the processing of 3D printed metallic materials to support research projects and industry partnerships.
This position is full-time, and on-site at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.
Duties & Responsibilities Duties and Responsibilities:
Clean, set-up and operate a range of metal 3D printers and powder atomizer located in the ARB building at the University of Arizona.
In collaboration with supervisor, establish standard operating procedures for equipment in ARB.
Assist faculty, graduate students, staff and external customers with setting up prints using Netfab and machine manufacturer software.
Calibrate laser systems, optics and powder feed systems.
Operate wire EDM for sectioning of samples from build plate.Provide routine maintenance of metal AM equipment.
Read electrical and mechanical drawings, order and replace consumables, sieve metal powder, maintain inventory of PPE equipment.Attend technical planning meetings with faculty and external customers.Assist with providing safety training.Mentor and share knowledge with graduate and undergraduate students operating 3D printing equipment in ARB building.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of metal additive manufacturing systems including related software (Netfab, Magics, etc).Knowledge of metal powder handling.Ability to troubleshoot and maintain processing equipment. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Preferred QualificationsDegree in Advanced Manufacturing, Manufacturing Technology, or Engineering.Experience working with CAD, machine tool path programming, operation of CNC machining equipment, and metal additive manufacturing systems.Experience working with students, faculty and staff on research projects.
