This Temporary appointment can be concluded prior to the stated temporary appointment end date, normally with a two-week notice period.
Continuation of this temporary appointment is contingent upon grant funding.

Part-Time: 0.85 FTE

Monday through Friday; from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Anticipated Hiring Range
$5,200.00 at 1.0 FTE/ $4,420.00 at 0.85 FTE per month
$62,400.00 at 1.0 FTE / $53,040.00 at 0.85 FTE annually
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician performs biochemistry and/or microbiology experiments and assists with general day-to-day operations of the laboratory.
They also record and analyze data, maintain appropriate laboratory notebooks, and work using safe laboratory practices.
May include computational analyses and manuscript preparation.
Under certain circumstances, they may supervise students in the laboratory
Position Information
Laboratory experiments and data collection
In consultation with the PI, perform biochemical and/or microbiology laboratory experimentsDevelop protocols and conduct experiments with various instrumentationMaintain research equipment in proper working order, perform preventative maintenanceMaintain proper laboratory records, collect reproducible data, practice ethics and integrity in data collection and interactions with colleagues Reagent preparation, chemical inventory, data backup
Prepare chemicals and reagents for experimentsMaintain chemical inventory and keep a clean, organized workspace and laboratory cultureBackup data in consultation with the PI on a weekly basis Data analysis, literature searching, manuscript and figure preparation, generation of reports
Analyze data in consultation with the PIPerform literature searches to keep abreast of new developments in the fieldWork with the PI on scientific manuscriptsGenerate reports regarding experimental results and help with laboratory scheduling Student supervision and training
On occasion, supervise student researchers or train them on new laboratory techniquesAssist the PI with record-keeping on student safety training and required training by funding agencies Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledges and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of research techniques, including the planning of studies and investigations, determining variables, developing bibliographical and other sources of data, and preparation of research reports; general knowledge of statistical principles and procedures, including methods of collecting statistical data, simple correlation methods, time series analyses, analysis of frequency series, sampling techniques, and construction of index numbers; general knowledge of sources of information on social, economic, and population trends in California.Ability to prepare questionnaires and other survey instruments; ability to gather, compile, and analyze research data, and to present data in tabular, graphic, and pictorial form, ability to prepare and work clear and comprehensive reports; capacity for independent and creative thinking and writing on research and statistical problems; ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of a small team. and
Experience:
Two years of progressively responsible experience in technical research or statistical work in the collection.
compilation, and analysis of data.Graduate study in the social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration or engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. and
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university.
Additional experience which has demonstrated that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledges and abilities delineated above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. A background check (which may include: checks of employment records, education records, criminal records, civil records, motor vehicle records, professional licenses, and sex offender registries, as position requires).
