The role will aid in the preclinical development of vaccine and other targeted therapeutics created at the Institute for Protein Design.
**Purpose of the research project:**
As a member of our Core R&D Labs, you will make important research contributions that accelerate progress in protein design.
These teams develop new research methods, collect experimental data, and help interpret results.
These activities are performed in collaboration with other scientists at the Institute for Protein Design or its collaborators; they are not available for external contract work.
Over the next 5 years the IPD hopes to advance 5-10 products from its own pipeline through pre-clinical proof of concept to pre-IND or IND stage assets.
The goal of this role is to help advance the assets coming from the IPD portfolio through pre-clinical product development.
The role will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the Baker, King, and Bhardwaj labs.
The ideal candidate would have at least 5 years of biotechnology experience (biotech/pharma) and be familiar with the stages of early product development for biologics and/or vaccines.
Product development is a complex interdisciplinary process and in this role, the successful individual would need to be able to interface with many aspects of the IPD including:
1) The IPD member labs and will be expected to build a close and productive relationship with the PIs and postdoctoral/graduate students
2) The Core R&D Labs who serve as functional teams that can contribute to advancing candidates.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
(30 %)
- Crystallization plates setup using advanced and complex robotics
- Optimization plans and setup trays using liquid handlers
- Crystal plate screening
- Operating crystal plate hotels and imaging systems
- Crystal curation depending on sample and users need
- Sample preparation for synchrotron shipment
(40 %)
- Diffraction experimen
- Computational techniques and crystallographic softwares
- Understating the diffraction data
- Soleving crystallographic structures
- Refining and polishing structures to contribute in high impact publication
- Preparing structures and associated files for Protein Data Bank deposition
(10 %)
- Organizing and maintaining wet lab
- Maintaining home x-ray source, robotics and liquid handlers
(10%)
- Assist with managing undergraduate research assistants
(10%)
- Present scientific data, attend meetings and team building events.
**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** **:**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or any other relevant field and one year of One year wet lab experience on biochemical/biophysical methods
+ Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
**ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ One year experience working with protein crystallization/structure solutions.
+ Strong communication and organization skills and great attention to detail.
+ Working in a team on with experience of working on multiple projects at a time will be an advantage.
**Desired** **REQUIREMENTS**
+ At least one year of full-time laboratory experience working with proteins.
+ A willingness to acquire new skills and learn new techniques.
+ Maintain timeline and discharge specific duties with perfection.
