How you’ll make an impact (position summary):
We are seeking a creative and experienced Art Curriculum Developer to design asynchronous online courses for middle and high school students on the visual arts.

The ideal candidate will have a strong teaching background, experience with middle and/or high school visual art, and the ability to craft content that is both engaging and inclusive for diverse learners.

What you’ll do (responsibilities):

  • Design and develop educational content (video scripts, assessments, and written materials) for middle and high school students.

  • Develop comprehensive, student-centered curriculum for visual art courses, covering topics like the elements and principles of art and design, drawing, color theory, painting, mixed media, 3D art, and digital media.

  • Ensure content is pedagogically sound, engaging, age-appropriate, and accessible for students.

  • Write clear and measurable lesson objectives, and align teaching materials to meet objectives.

  • Collaborate with coaches, video producers, and educators to create high-quality, interactive content.

  • Film overhead videos for visual demonstrations of lesson content.

  • Use technology, such as Google Slides, Sheets, and Docs.

  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.

  • Continuously evaluate and refine content based on feedback and educational outcomes.

  • Collaborate on special projects and assignments.

Schedule:

  • Curriculum Developers are expected to have 30-40 hours of availability each week on a year-round basis.

    This range of hours is designed to offer flexibility in your schedule, and there is ample work available! We consider anything over 30 hours a week to be full-time, so you would be eligible for all of our benefits!

  • What your schedule looks like is mostly up to you! Morning person?

    Night owl?

    Somewhere in between?

    As long as you are meeting your deadlines and are available for weekly meetings with your supervisor and peers (generally during US business hours), we support the hours that work best for you.



You may be a good fit if you have (requirements):

  • A minimum of 2 years of full-time visual art classroom teaching experience at the middle and high school level

  • A minimum of 1 year developing visual art curriculum or lesson materials at the middle and high school level (this can include materials that you use in your own classroom!)

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Education, Art Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Fine or Visual Art, or a related field

  • Personal visual art portfolio (you will be asked to provide a link to your personal visual art portfolio as part of the application.)

  • Knowledge of the structure of an effective lesson

  • Familiarity with writing lesson objectives and aligning material to meet objectives

  • Ability to differentiate instruction to make learning accessible, engaging, and age-appropriate

  • Strong understanding of what makes a lesson engaging

  • Strong writing skills and the ability to develop content that resonates with online learners

  • Experience using technology to support instruction, including Google Slides, Sheets, and Docs

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Growth mindset and motivated by constructive feedback

  • Proven ability to work independently, manage schedules, and meet deadlines

  • High motivation, a proactive attitude, and a tendency to seek opportunities for continuous improvement

  • High standards of integrity and transparency

  • Access to a computer/laptop (with camera) and a reliable high-speed internet connection

  • Ability to record overhead video for visual demonstrations of lesson content.

    We provide gear (except phone) for the overhead recording of videos.

What makes you stand out (nice-to-haves):

  • An active teaching certification in middle/high school education and/or completed professional development or training in curriculum design and pedagogy

  • Training or experience in instructional design

  • Hands-on experience designing and writing curriculum at the school or district level or for an e-learning platform, including writing scripts for video lessons

  • Experience analyzing and transforming data into actionable goals that have positively impacted your students

  • Experience with online instruction

  • Comfort navigating sensitive or identity-related topics with empathy, cultural awareness, and age-appropriate boundaries

  • Experience teaching art fundamentals, drawing, painting, AP or IB Studio Art, or other 2D or 3D art content to middle or secondary school students.

  • Portfolio of student work

  • Experience creating video and voice-over for art demonstration videos is a plus

Compensation & benefits:

The expected starting pay range is $24.92-$35.01/hour.
