The Security Control Assessor - Team Lead plays a critical role in evaluating and validating the implementation of security controls for information systems within the organization.
In addition to core SCA responsibilities, this position emphasizes proactive customer engagement and serves as a key liaison between system owners and security stakeholders.
This position primarily serves as a strategic bridge between mission stakeholders and security teams to expedite approvals and ensure alignment with agency policies.
The ideal candidate understands security governance, policy, and risk posture and can translate technical requests into compliant, risk-informed recommendations.
This role ensures technical and policy alignment through strong communication, supports the Authorization & Accreditation (A&A) process, and helps maintain momentum across mission initiatives with security implications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the RMF process, NIST SP 800-53 controls, and agency-specific A&A policiesExperience interacting with security stakeholders, such as ISSMs, AOs, or security governance teamsAbility to communicate security requirements clearly to technical and non-technical personnelFamiliarity with submitting or managing AFTs, POA&Ms, security exception requests, and waiver packagesUnderstanding of cybersecurity risk evaluation and mitigation principlesStrong documentation and coordination skills; comfortable managing multiple ongoing efforts simultaneouslyProfessional demeanor with a customer service-oriented mindset and attention to detailHow you’ll grow
