Job description

Position Purpose


Assists with maintaining a safe and secure District by staffing the 24-hour Security Help Desk.

Responsible for monitoring surveillance systems, dispatching security staff, contacting police, fire and District personnel for after-hour emergencies.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Security Monitor
  • Dispatch security patrol to alarms and incidents.
  • Perform radio communications.
  • Control electronic doors and access points.
  • Monitor surveillance equipment.
  • Intake and distribute calls for assistance.
  • Make various incident reports.
  • Maintain inventory of security equipment.
  • Perform all job-related duties as assigned.

  • Performs all job-related duties as assigned and in accordance to the Board rules, policies and regulations.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of safety and security protocols relating to educational settings, supporting facilities, and Texas rules of the road.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws as well as policies and requirements as they relate to students, staff, and the school system.
  • Knowledge of school board policy, Texas Education Code, Texas Family Code, and other statutes involving public schools.
  • Knowledge of multicultural diversity issues in the work place.
  • Knowledge of interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Skill in communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for documenting concise incident reports.
  • Skill in operating applicable software including email and word processing to complete tasks.
  • Ability to work interactively with parents, students, school personnel, and community partners.
  • Ability to exercise discretion regarding matters of sensitive or confidential nature.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and creativity in making decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively with school administrators and District staff.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work under pressure, meet deadlines, and resolve issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including principles of English and grammar usage.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

  • Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

  • Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Alarm systems, security equipment, two-way radio, fire extinguisher, and standard office equipment.
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing.
  • Motion: Frequent keyboarding and use of mouse.
  • Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
  • Environment: Works inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather).

  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
  • Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements.

    May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions.
  • Special Requirements: On call twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week, as needed to respond to critical incidents or emergency situations.

  • Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Education: High School diploma or GED.
  • Certification/License: None
  • Experience: Six months to one year of related work experience.
