Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Senior Associate to join our Performance Operations team, with responsibility for performance oversight across hedge funds and alternative strategies.

This role is embedded in trade floor support and carries high visibility due to its direct engagement with the front office—making it fast-paced, tactical, and impact-driven.

Success in this role requires a deep appreciation for tactical operational execution, where precision, urgency, and ownership are key, and no task is too small.

The ideal candidate thrives in the weeds—someone who enjoys digging into data, investigating anomalies, identifying root causes, and resolving investment performance inquiries across multiple platforms.

They must be resourceful, analytical, and comfortable navigating ambiguity to drive resolution and scale improvements.

This is a hands-on role that demands both precision and agility.

You’ll work across performance and risk data, log and track issues, and connect the dots to uncover patterns and inform governance reporting.

A strong understanding of the financial markets, trade lifecycle, operational workflows, data integrity, and issue resolution is essential—along with a genuine enthusiasm for solving complex problems through data analysis.

Candidates must be able to transform complex data into clear, compelling narratives that drive action and inform senior leadership.

Just as importantly, they must be able to communicate technical findings in a succinct, non-technical way to portfolio managers and other stakeholders.

Above all, the ideal candidate brings a strong operational mindset, advanced technical skills, and a relentless drive to solve problems—leveraging data to scale solutions, improve processes, and support cross-functional collaboration across technology, investment, and operations teams.

This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving complex problems, and is passionate about using data to inform strategy and improve operational outcomes.

Location

Austin, TX (preferred) or Newport Beach, CA

The key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a point of contact for investment performance-related issues; manage the full lifecycle of inquiries from logging to resolution including escalation and root-cause analysis.

  • Analyze portfolio attribution data, investigate, and resolve performance-related issues across the firm’s hedge funds and alternative accounts, identifying trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Monitor and validate portfolio returns, including attribution and benchmark analysis, ensuring accuracy through coordination with relevant teams.

  • Facilitate post-issue root cause analysis discussions to prevent recurrences and strengthen operational controls.

  • Consolidate data from multiple sources—portfolio management systems, risk analytics, operations, technology, and external providers such as Bloomberg—to support performance analysis and issue tracking.

  • Prepare monthly governance decks for executive leadership, including executive-ready slides, statistical summaries, talking points, and clear decisions/actions; present findings and drive follow-up on action items.

  • Coordinate cross-functional inputs (PMs, risk, operations, tech) to ensure timely, accurate governance communications.

  • Partner with internal technology teams and external vendors to enhance platform capabilities and help scale self-service tooling.

  • Contribute to longer-term initiatives such as platform enhancements, automation, and education to support scalable operations.

  • Position Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field; a Master's degree or progress towards CFA , CIPM, or FRM designation preferred.

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience focused on investment performance oversight, risk analytics/management, or related functions within the asset management or hedge fund industry.

  • Strong understanding of equity, fixed income, derivatives, including underlying data ecosystems and operational trade lifecycle.

Understanding of alternative investment strategies is a plus.

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis; experience with data visualization tools and PowerPoint for executive reporting.

  • Ability to extract, interpret, and synthesize data from multiple systems and databases to produce clear, actionable insights.

  • Skilled in translating technical data into executive-ready slides and narratives that support strategic decision-making.

  • Capable of distilling complex findings into concise, non-technical messages tailored to portfolio managers and other stakeholders

  • Familiarity with performance and risk platforms (e.g., Aladdin, Bloomberg, or similar systems), with a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.

  • Ability to analyze cash flows, corporate actions, and accounting data, and assess their impact on portfolio performance is highly desirable.

  • Experience in consulting-style problem solving, change management, or working with external clients/vendors desirable.
