Job description

The University of Iowa Design & Construction team is seeking a Sr. Construction Project Manager.

This position will be responsible for high profile projects that may last 3-5 years in duration; the role may have difficult features such as demanding schedule, extremely tight budget, or difficult site, and have a significant impact on operations.

The Sr. Construction Project Manager will need to use management skills to develop the program and deliver a completed project that meets the scope, schedule and budget requirements.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment.

Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the and .

Duties to include:

  • Plan the sequencing and scheduling of capital improvement projects in coordination with administration.

  • Meet with customers to assess needs and expectations and monitor performance of project team.
  • Assess and advise development and management of project schedules throughout the design and/or construction process
  • Review design and/or construction for code compliance with current campus standards and industry best practices.
  • Oversee the management of internal and external engineering/architecture and general construction contracts and maintain records.
  • Location: University Services Building

    Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction technology, architecture or a related field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

  • Professional experience (typically 5-7 years) in construction management or construction supervision.

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in computer software applications.
  • Familiarity with construction site safety guidelines.
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering, construction technology, architecture or a related field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

  • Experience in a customer focused, team-oriented environment.
  • Professional experience (typically 5-7 years) in construction management or construction supervision on a university campus.
  • Expert/Leader experience with project management software such as BlueBeam, Microsoft Projects, etc.
  • Expert/Leader experience in managing healthcare, laboratory and/or MEPT capital improvement projects.
  • Experience with commissioning processes and/or state building inspection procedures.
  • Extensive experience with Quality Management.
  • Understanding of the total-cost-ownership approach to project decision making and other effective practices supporting facilities stewardship.
