**Overview**
As a **Senior Lead Azure Data Engineer** , you will play a key role in driving the technical direction, quality, and performance of data engineering projects on Azure Cloud.
The focus of this position is on **technical leadership** , **mentoring engineering teams** , and **ensuring adherence to best practices** — while remaining **hands-on** to guarantee the reliability and quality of solutions delivered.
You will work with modern data technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and Databricks to enable data-driven decision-making and analytics for our clients.
**Your Impact**
+ Provide **technical leadership** and guidance to a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
+ Stay **hands-on** in development, performing reviews and validations to ensure quality, scalability, and performance across all deliverables.
+ Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes using **Azure Data Factory** and **Databricks (PySpark)** .
+ Build and optimize **data lake** and **data warehouse** solutions using **Delta Lake** and **Synapse Analytics (serverless)** .
+ Define and enforce **engineering standards** , **code reviews** , and **best practices** across the team.
+ Collaborate closely with architects and stakeholders to define and evolve **data architecture** and solution design.
+ Ensure **data quality** , **performance tuning** , and **cost optimization** across Azure components.
+ Automate data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration processes to improve reliability and operational efficiency.
+ Partner with data scientists, analysts, and business teams to translate complex data requirements into robust, scalable solutions.
+ Stay current with emerging technologies and innovations within the Azure and Databricks ecosystems.
**Qualifications**
**Skills & Experience**
+ 8+ years of experience in **data engineering, data warehousing, and analytics** .
+ Proven experience in **technical leadership and** **team mentorship** within agile engineering environments.
+ Hands-on expertise with **Azure Data Factory** , **Databricks (PySpark)** , and **Delta Lake** .
+ Strong experience implementing **Synapse Analytics (serverless)** solutions for querying and data serving.
+ Solid understanding of **data architecture** , **modeling** , and **performance optimization** in cloud environments.
+ Experience defining and maintaining **CI/CD pipelines** and version control for data engineering projects.
+ Advanced **SQL** skills and practical experience with both relational and non-relational databases.
+ Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on ensuring technical quality and scalability.
**Set Yourself Apart With**
+ Experience integrating **Databricks** with other Azure services (e.g., Event Hub, Data Lake Storage, Logic Apps).
+ Familiarity with **Delta Live Tables** and data reliability frameworks.
+ Certifications such as **Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203)** or equivalent.
+ Demonstrated experience defining or implementing **data architecture blueprints** and governance frameworks.
**This is a full-time role (40 hours per week) open to both permanent and contractor hires in Mexico, Colombia, and Costa Rica and** **and available only as a contractor position in Argentina and Peru.**
**Location & Travel Requirements**
**The selected candidate will lead a team primarily located in Argentina.
During the initial phase, monthly travel to Argentina will be required to engage with the team on-site and support alignment.
Over time, travel will occur on an as-needed basis, with frequency expected to reduce as the team becomes fully operational.
