Senior Mechanical Project Manager / Client Manager Job Opening In Denver – Now Hiring Dewberry

Due to the high demand for energy efficient building design and analysis, Dewberry is expanding our Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural (MEPS) offerings to Denver, Colorado, where we will focus on building decarbonization and optimized energy performance.

In support of this initiative, our Denver, CO office is seeking a Senior Mechanical Project Manager/Client Manager to act as primary contact between our office and Owners and to effectively manage projects from concept through design, bidding, negotiation, construction administration, and winning the next project with the same client.

Based on the candidate's credentials and knowledge of the Denver and broader Colorado regional markets, the candidate should exhibit existing client relationships, the ability to establish new client relationships, and the ability to acquire new projects.

They will be expected to work closely with the client to anticipate and avoid problems; quickly solve problems that arise; work with a multi-disciplined team to provide first-rate engineering documents that meet the client’s needs, project specifications, and governing standards/codes; assist the client to achieve their professional goals and that of their organization; and, in general, do whatever is necessary to maintain a Client for Life.

Target markets include higher education, critical environments, state and local governments, and industrial buildings.

Other markets in which the candidate may have strong connections may be added to our current list of targeted markets.

Dewberry has a large team of MEPS engineers focused on design services for nationwide clients in specialized facility types and specialized design services.

Our experience includes high performance buildings, net zero energy design, renewable energy technologies, microgrid and energy storage system design, energy and climate resilience, commissioning, retrocommissioning, energy audits and studies, carbon accounting, energy / carbon master planning, energy benchmarking, building analytics, water conservation, and other services related to decarbonization/electrification of the built environment.

Our MEPS group contains subject matter experts in leadership roles in international professional organizations such as ASHRAE.

Our repeat clients include universities; state, local, and federal government agencies; and large global industrial manufacturers, among others.

Responsibilities

  • Build new client relationships and partnerships specific to the Denver, CO regionMaintain primary one-to-one contact with the client.Understand the client's needs and goals and those of his/her organization.Draft proposals for new projects with existing clients for review and signature of the Principal In Charge of Business, and track proposals through the award of the project.

    Work with the client to develop additional work.Attend regular design meetings with the client and issue meeting minutes.As project manager, lead, organize, and schedule design team staff.Organize and direct frequent in-house design meetings.Primary responsibility for the approval and oversight of design and construction documents within the applicable area of progressive technical experience, including signing and sealing of documents as Engineer or Record.Prepare detailed personnel loading by task, interfaced with the detailed schedule.Coordinate with Design Discipline Managers to schedule, plan, and assign appropriate personnel.Prepare storyboards and a detailed project timeline.Organize and maintain project design folder.Document meetings and telephone conversations.Provide quality control to ensure that all of the clients' needs and requests have been accommodated.

    Ensure and coordinate among all of the disciplines involved, including outside consultants.Provide 'on-the-spot' advice and decisions to the Owner.Advise on project billing and assist in collections.Supervise and coordinate the submission of documents to the appropriate reviewing authorities (DOI, SCO, DHSR, DFS, IRI, Coordinate the responses to reviews.

    Ensure that responses are reflected in the drawings and specifications.Arrange for in-house quality review in a timely fashion.Arrange and attend pre-bid conferences and issue meeting minutes and addenda.Conduct bid openings and prepare / issue certified bid tabulation.

    Coordinate as required to ensure the CA phase of the project always puts Dewberry in positive standing with the Client.Perform site visits, inspections, and commissioning activities as required to support the Construction Administration requirements.Assist with recruiting, evaluating, and making recommendations regarding new employees to support MEP practice.Knowledgeable of the construction process, familiar with AIA contracts.
  • Required Skills & Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.Accomplished Professional Engineer (PE) with 15+ years of experience preferred.Strong technical background in building energy efficiency and decarbonization strongly preferredGeneral knowledge of retrocommissioning; ASHRAE Level 1, 2, and 3 Energy Audits, Carbon Accounting; Energy Master Planning strongly preferred Self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

    Well organized, with good understanding of plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems, with general knowledge of client design standards, system operation, space requirements, and cost.Strong understanding of national, state, and local building codes, regulations, standards, and ordinances (including the Energize Denver Ordinance) is required
  • The projected range for this position is $130,000-$168,000 annually.
