The AI Applied Engineering team (part of Microsoft’s Core AI organization) acts as a forward-deployed AI task force.
Our mission is to co-innovate, incubate, and improve Microsoft’s AI platforms by applying them to real-world customer scenarios.
We build and infuse AI technologies into end-to-end solutions for strategic enterprise customers and ISVs across all domains.
Using Azure AI services like LLMs, Speech, Search and advanced techniques like model Fine Tuning, Evaluations along with Azure’s cloud infrastructure, we deliver AI-powered APIs, models, services and solutions that solve real problems.
Insights from these projects directly inform and enhance Microsoft’s Core AI platform, making our products more robust and scalable for all customers.

This position will be located in either Redmond, WA or Mountain View, CA and offers a flexible work arrangement, allowing you to work in a hybrid model with 50% of your time from home and 50% from the office.
**Responsibilities**
+ Architect and develop end-to-end AI solutions: Design systems that span cloud services, on-premises systems, and edge devices.
Quickly learn and integrate new Azure services and AI technologies (LLMs, agents, fine-tuning techniques, etc.) into the solutions you build.
+ Embrace rapid experimentation: Take smart risks and prototype quickly.
Iterate fast on ideas, experimenting with bold approaches to find effective solutions.
Learn from successes and failures to continuously improve and refine our offerings.
+ Customer engagement: Work directly with Fortune 500 and startup customers and partners as a technical leader.
Understand their needs, tackle their most complex challenges with a customer-obsessed mindset, and deliver AI solutions that provide real business value.
+ Cross-team collaboration: Partner with product engineering teams, researchers, data scientists, and other engineers across Microsoft.
Bring the best of Microsoft’s innovations to each project and ensure our solutions are aligned with and influencing the direction of Azure AI platform services.
+ Technical leadership: Take initiative in driving projects and provide architectural guidance.
Mentor and guide fellow engineers and partner teams on AI solution design and best practices.
+ Knowledge sharing: Transfer insights and best practices to our partners and the broader community.
This may include writing sample code or documentation, training partner engineering teams, and presenting our work to customers or at industry events.
**Qualifications**
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR equivalent experience
+ 4+ years of proven technical problem solving, architecture, design, and implementation skills as evidenced by prior projects
**Other Requirements:**
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ Experience with Generative AI, OpenAI GPT(Generative Pre-trained Transformer) models, Azure AI Services, and Machine Learning techniques
+ Experience in dealing with ambiguity, and handling changes in customer requirements
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year.
There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
