We are a small, focused team within MSAI Office of the CTO (OCTO) committed to driving Copilot Agility — accelerating how we innovate, build, and scale the Copilot platform across Microsoft.

We are looking for a **Senior Software Engineer** who is passionate about developer agility and improving the speed, reliability, and efficiency of Copilot development.

In this role, you will design and build backend, data, and ML systems that empower teams across E+D(M365 Core, OPG, GXP, etc) to develop and deploy Copilot capabilities with greater velocity and confidence.

You’ll partner closely with other engineers, product managers, and applied scientists to identify bottlenecks, improve workflows, and deliver key initiatives such as the Copilot Data Platform.

The qualified candidate is an AI-forward engineer, who can ramp up quickly on new projects, thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, and make an immediate impact.

You’ll contribute both to foundational engineering work and to AI adoption initiatives that drive agility across the Copilot ecosystem.

If you’re passionate about building high-quality systems, love solving complex technical problems, and are driven by making development faster and smarter — this is the right role for you.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.

As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals.

Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

+ Drive engineering standard practices across the team, contributing to reliability, maintainability, and developer efficiency.
+ Contribute to the technical direction and roadmap by identifying opportunities to improve agility, speed, and developer experience across Copilot systems.
+ Participate actively in code reviews, design discussions, and sprint planning, helping the team deliver with velocity and quality.
+ Embody our culture and values.

**Qualifications**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
+ OR equivalent experience
+ 1+ years experience designing, implementing, and operating backend and data-intensive or ML-driven and evaluation systems.
+ Demonstrated ability to ramp up quickly, work independently, and make measurable impact in fast-paced and ambiguous environments.
+ Solid collaboration skills and ability to work effectively across multiple teams and disciplines to deliver complex projects.

**Other Requirements:**

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Experience working with SOTA AI tooling to accelerate software development lifecycle.
+ Experience with Azure platforms and modern deployment practices such as CI/CD, containerization, and microservices.
+ Understanding of developer productivity and agility principles, including automation, observability, and workflow optimization.
+ Proven track record of improving engineering velocity and reliability through tooling, infrastructure, or process enhancements.
