The Set-Up Technician is responsible for complex operations and duties in high pressure die casting (HPDC) under general supervision.
Responsibilities include tracking equipment performance and adjust set-ups, calibrations, and alignments.
In addition, responsible for tracking data associated with HPDC and solve problems requiring extensive knowledge and experience.
Performance Expectations
Set up equipment. Modify CNC programs for lathes, milling machines, grinders and robots. Set up CNC lathes, milling machines, grinders based on process specifications. Evaluate “out of tolerance” conditions and make adjustments. Read and interpret CMM reports. Set up and maintain adjustable support tools (fixturing). Predict tool wear and tool changes based on SPC data. Identify, select and prepare tooling. Total the amounts of materials needed or the number of holes to drill, according to specifications. May measure pieces to verify that the size meets the specifications. Process and tooling improvements for cost reduction programs. Provide direct supervision to operators in absence of supervisor. Train and assist operators in troubleshooting as needed.
Credentials
Machine License or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum four years of Machine Shop experience. Intermediate understanding of CNC programming. Basic understanding of machine controls. Knowledge of SPC methods, process, machine capability requirements and lot control techniques. Ability to use a computer to confirm measurements or adjust computer control CNC machinery. Able to read computer-generated profile views. Able to interpret blue prints.

Ability to work independently and in a team setting when needed. Ability to learn new specifications and procedures through on-the-job training and experience. Able to communicate both orally and written forms to various levels within the organization.
