Sign Language Interpreter Job Opening In Fort Benning – Now Hiring Department of Defense Education Activity


Job description

Summary About the Position: DoDEA Americas Southeast District operates 24 schools in 4 states across 2 time zones.

The Fort Benning Schools are part of the DoDEA Americas Southeast District.

We have a total of 5 schools to serve military connected students in PK through grade 8.

Salary based on Full-time work schedule, this position is Part-time/Seasonal 70 hours per pay period.

Responsibilities Serve as an interpreter for deaf and/or hearing impaired students.

Interprets teacher's directions and messages in sign language to students.

Provide supervision of and instruction to students on simple subject matter.

Clearly explain concepts being taught and observe students for understanding.

Develop audio-visual tactile aides and set up lab demonstrations.

Distribute and collect testing materials as needed by students.

Supervises student meal and play times.

Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

One year of specialized experience which includes: utilizing American Sign Language to translate conversations between deaf/hearing impaired and hearing individuals; and translates routine conversations for the purpose of relaying education materials.

The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Additional Information Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.

Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
